West Virginia State is 9-9 overall, but 3-0 against the MEC.

Charleston boasts a record of 5-14 and 0-3 in the league.

SEND IT BACK
After a three-set loss to Davis & Elkins to open MEC play last weekend, CU downed West Virginia Wesleyan in four sets while sweeping Glenville State Tuesday to improve to 2-1 in the league. The Mountain Lions were led defensively as they tallied 15 total blocks between the two matches. Sophomore middle hitter Sheridan Herron had eight total blocks in the two matches while sophomore outside hitter Peyton Wiseman had six total blocks including a match-high four against Glenville State. Herron is just outside the top 10 in blocks per set in the MEC at 0.75.

DIG IT
At Glenville State, junior defensive specialist Lindsay Maddox topped the 1,000-dig platea becoming the 10th player in program history to achieve the feat. Maddox now has 1,022 digs and is two digs away from passing Brytni Willis for ninth on the all-time list at CU. The Amherst, Virginia native had 44 digs over the two matches against Glenville State and Wesleyan. Meanwhile, senior defensive specialist Erin Shannon starts the week 25th among active Division II players with 1,667 digs.

SPREAD THE WEALTH
In the last two wins for Concord, five different players for the Mountain Lions had five or more kills in each match. Freshman middle hitter Amber Hall led the way with nine against Glenville State, meanwhile, Herron had 12 against West Virginia Wesleyan. Hall, Herron, sophomore right side Camryn Huber, junior outside hitter Kirsti Pouncy and Wiseman all had five-kill matches in the last two contests. For the season, Hall (112) and Huber (102) have already topped the 100-kill mark with Pouncy needing just 11 to reach the century mark.

A RIVALRY RENEWED
Charleston and West Virginia State are the closest teams to Concord—geographically—in the MEC. Last season, the Mountain Lions played both schools close, but fell short in all four matches. Concord and WVSU played a four-set match in Athens while the road contest required five sets for the Yellow Jackets to win. Senior setter Jenna Mounts racked up 50 assists in two matches against West Virginia State while sophomore setter Imani Rodgers added another 40 assists. Shannon had 34 digs in the match at WVSU, which were a 2018 season best for her.

WEST VIRGINIA STATE AT A GLANCE
The Yellow Jackets are second in the MEC in hitting percentage at .221. Gabby Thompson (.376) and J'Lana Stone (.290) lead the way for WVSU, ranking second and ninth, respectively, in the MEC. West Virginia State has wins over Charleston, Davis & Elkins and West Virginia Wesleyan to start MEC play. Both D&E and Charleston pushed WVSU to a fourth set. Of the 18 matches for West Virginia State, only six have been over in three sets.

CHARLESTON AT A GLANCE
Kelsey Matusic is averaging 4.13 digs per set which ranks seventh in the MEC this season. Matusic's 1,866 digs are 16th in Division II among active players. The Golden Eagles were swept by Davis & Elkins and West Virginia Wesleyan to start conference play before dropping a mid-week matchup with West Virginia State. Janeese VerVelde ranks fifth in the MEC in hitting percentage at .324.
