NEW ORLEANS – The Concord University men's track and field team is ranked 24
th in the first national United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association outdoor track and field poll that released Tuesday afternoon.
The Mountain Lions garner the first national ranking in program history with Tuesday's release.
The national poll is based on computer rankings that accumulate each school's individual athlete's ranking in an event throughout the course of the season.
Through three weeks of the outdoor track and field season, junior
Jason Weitzel is ranked top 20 in three events. Weitzel has the top 10,000-meter time, the fourth-fastest 5,000-meter time and is 20
th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in Division II.
Senior
Justin Snyder is fourth in Division II in the 10,000-meter run.
Junior
Damon Akers is ranked 27
th in the 800-meter run and sits 32
nd in the 1,500-meter run.
Freshman
Samuel Haynes is 31
st in the 10,00-meter run.
Chico State is ranked first in the national poll followed by Texas A& Kingsville, Pittsburg State, Angelo State and UC San Diego rounding out the top five.
Two other Atlantic Region schools, St. Augustine's (eighth) and Slippery Rock (15
th) are also ranked in the top 25.
