Mountain Lions Notes
The strength of Concord's schedule has been tough in the early stages of conference play. The first four opponents for CU: Notre Dame, West Virginia Wesleyan, Charleston and West Liberty have gone a combined 14-5-4.
Meanwhile the next four opponents on the schedule: Urbana, Shepherd, Wheeling Jesuit and Fairmont State have a combined mark of 4-11-4.
The Mountain Lions fell 1-0 to West Virginia Wesleyan Wednesday afternoon.
Freshman goalkeeper
Katie Maher made a career-high eight saves last game against the Bobcats. In two games versus WVWC, Maher had to make 15 combined stops.
The backline defense of junior
Joanna Aiello, freshman
Morgan Carmichael, sophomore
Ali Cook and freshman
Alyssa Mahar has been stellar in helping CU matching its win total in 2016 with limiting opponents' scoring chances.
Through seven games, Concord has allowed one or fewer goals in five of those contests. That's halfway to the mark Concord had last season when it allowed one of fewer goals in 10 games.
In the three previous years, Concord records a record of 3-2-1 versus Urbana.
Last year, junior forward
Pilar Elias scored two goals against the Blue Knights, both at home and both on penalty kicks. CU and Urbana tied 2-2 at Anderson Field last season.
In 2016 Concord won at Urbana with sophomore forward
Megan Walsh scoring the only goal. Walsh's goal was assisted by
Sarah Akers.
Akers has four career points against the Blue Knights. Along with her assist last year, Akers had a goal and an assist two seasons ago in a 3-0 Concord win at Anderson Field.
Elias also helped on one of the Concord scores in the victory in 2015.
URBANA AT A GLANCE
Urbana is 1-6 overall and 1-5 in the conference.
On a three-game losing streak, Urbana has fallen to Shepherd, Wheeling Jesuit and Notre Dame.
