Concord Carries Win Streak Into MEC Play

ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University women's basketball team starts the Mountain East Conference portion of its schedule on the road against Notre Dame 2:00 p.m. Saturday and at Urbana  5:30 p.m. Monday.

RECORDS
Concord is 2-1 this season after winning back-to-back games against Lock Haven and Bluefield State.

Notre Dame is 1-2 with a pair of losses to ranked teams—Ashland and California (Pa.).

Urbana has only played one game, a 69-38 loss to Tiffin.

RIPPING THE NETS
The Mountain Lions rolled past BSC, 108-70, Wednesday night to move to 2-1 on the season.

It was the first time Concord had scored 100 or more points in a game since December 4, 2014 at Glenville State. Additionally, it was the first time the Maroon and Gray had won a game by more than 30 points since defeating Lees-McRae during the 2011-12 season at home.

Concord shot 50.7 percent (37-for-73) from the floor and 47.8 percent (11-for-23) from three-point range. It had been 10 games since CU shot 50 percent or better from the field, an 81-54 home win over West Liberty last season.

The stellar display from beyond the arc was CU's best performance from three-point range since last season's 81-60 home victory over Bluefield State when it shot 14-for-26 from downtown.

Furthermore, it was the first game for Concord shooting 50 percent from the field and 45 percent from three-point range since a narrow 88-83 loss to Urbana January 12, 2016.

APPROACHING 1K
After tossing in 23 points on 9-for-12 shooting against Bluefield State, senior guard Danielle Catron needs 111 points to eclipse 1,000 for her career.

The 20-point game for Catron was her first since last season's win over West Liberty when she scored exactly 20 points versus the Hilltoppers.

CAREER NIGHT
Sophomore forward Madison May continued her strong start to the season by scoring 21 points in 27 minutes. Along with career highs in minutes played and points, the Athens, West Virginia native also had a personal-best four steals.

May did major damage at the foul line as well as she knocked in all nine attempts from the charity stripe.

Additionally, May stayed trendy in second-half scoring as she poured in 15 points in the third and fourth quarters of the contest.

SHARING IS CARING
Through three games, Concord is averaging 13.6 assists per game, ranking fourth in the conference.

The Mountain Lions have assisted on 45.5 percent of its made field goals (41-for-90). CU has dispersed the assists nicely with no players averaging three assists per game.

Senior guard Lindsey Overbey paces the group with 2.7 assists per game and junior guard Emily Boothe is at 2.0 assists per game. Catron, freshman guard Savannah Coble, senior forward Heather Chapman and junior guard Andreanna Pool each have 1.7 assists per game.

ONE TIMERS
The Mountain Lions will be seeking its first all-time win over Notre Dame as CU enters the matchup 0-8 against the Falcons.

NDC has won the last four matchups over Concord by at least 12 points.

As a sophomore, Catron posted a career-high 28 points on the road against the Falcons. Catron shot 12-for-17 from the field and knocked in 4-of-6 three-pointers.

SPLITS
The eight all-time meetings between Concord and Urbana are split at 4-4.

Last season, the road team won each game as UU took an 82-73 win back to central Ohio. However, Concord returned the favor with a 90-75 win at Urbana later in the season.

Catron averaged 19 points per game last season versus the Blue Knights.

In four career games against Urbana, Boothe has scored at least 19 points in three of the contests including a career-high 26 two seasons ago on the road.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
+4.3-  Rebounding margin for Concord this season, fifth best in the MEC.

17- Offensive rebounds for CU at Urbana last season that led to 15 second-chance points.

50- Rebounds for Concord against Bluefield State, the most in a game in a year.

NOTRE DAME AT A GLANCE
Standout Kim Cook is averaging nearly a double-double this season with 14.3 points and 9.3 rebounds per contest.

Saturday will be the fifth game for NDC since last Friday as it played Mercyhurst, California (PA.), Ashland and an exhibition against Division I Ohio University.

Seina Adachi leads the Falcons in scoring at 15.3 points per game, but is shooting just 28.3 percent from the floor.

URBANA AT A GLANCE
In last season's win over Concord, Sylvia Hudson had 27 points and 13 rebounds, but was reduced to 12 points and three rebounds in the Mountain Lion victory.

Urbana has a new head coach in Andrea McCloskey who comes to UU after spending the last six seasons at NAIA school Georgetown (Ky.).
