NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP NOTES
The top 40 runners will be named All-American at the conclusion of the race. Concord has never had an All-American in cross country.
This will be the second straight year Weitzel runs at the national meet after he and his teammates competed last season at Saint Leo University in the national championship cross country race.
In 2016, Weitzel completed the course in Florida in 32:47 for 10,000 meters. Weitzel finished 132
nd in the race.
At the Stegemoller Classic, which was an 8,000-meter race on the Angel Mounds course, Weitzel ran 25:36—a pace of 5:09. If Weitzel were to run the same pace Saturday he would be nearly a minute faster than he was last year at the national meet.
The Athens, West Virginia native qualified for Saturday's meet by finishing eighth at the Atlantic Regional meet as he ran 31:20 at Lock Haven University.
Adams State out of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference is the defending team champion while Missouri Southern's Vincent Kiprop is the defending individual champion.
