ATHENS, W.Va-Â The Concord University women's soccer team begins a slate of 11 consecutive Mountain East Conference matchups when they travel to play Fairmont State 7:00 p.m. Friday before returning to Athens for a game with Shepherd 1:00 p.m. Sunday.

MOUNTAIN LION NOTES
The Mountain Lions split their opening two fixtures of the season, falling 3-0 to Tusculum on the road before rebounding with a 2-1 win over Wheeling Jesuit at home to even their record at 1-1.Â
Fairmont State has scored ten goals in three games, defeating Salem International 8-0 before beating Alderson Broaddus 2-1 for a 2-0 start to the year. The Fighting Falcons dropped their MEC first contest of the year on Tuesday to nationally-ranked West Virginia Wesleyan in a narrow 1-0 defeat.
Shepherd stands at 1-1 on the season, defeating Concordia (N.Y.) 1-0 before falling to Notre Dame 2-0 in the conference opener.Â
Concord has defeated the Fighting Falcons in the team's only two previous meetings.
The Mountain Lions defeated FSU 3-0 at home last season. Sophomore forward
Pilar Elias netted two of the three goals in that victory.
Senior forward
Emily Cole supplied all three assists for CU in that game.Â
In the away fixture, a late overtime goal by junior midfielder
Micharae Thompson helped CU win 1-0 in double overtime last October.
Elias scored a goal and had an assist to help Concord earn its first win of the season on Tuesday. The Waterville, Maine native went on to score the game-winning goal in the 60
th minute.   Â
There were a number of firsts that happened in Concord's game against Wheeling Jesuit
Freshman midfielder
Megan Walsh scored her first goal of the season to open the scoring for the Mountain Lions.
Head Coach
Luke Duffy earned his first collegiate win as head coach of Concord.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Emily Simpkins saved eight shots in helping to preserve Concord's win over WJU and has made 12 saves over two games this season.
Against the Rams last season, Concord lost 4-1 at home and tied 1-1 in Shepherdstown.Â
Simpkins came up big in goal in the draw on the road, notching nine saves over 110 minutes of play.
Elias tallied the lone goal for Concord in the first half.
Junior midfielder
Sarah Akers scored the only goal for Concord in Athens from an assist by senior midfielder
Margot Provencher.
The Mountain Lions last win over Shepherd at home came on September 17, 2014 in a 2-1 win. Cole would assist Stacey Calder for the opening goal in that win.Â
SCOUTING FAIRMONT STATE
The Fighting Falcons have done most of their damage in the first half, scoring eight goals in the opening period as opposed to just two in the second half.Â
Courtney Webb leads FSU, with four goals on just seven shots. Webb was an all-conference second team performer a season ago. Â
Gabi Mascaro, Katie Doyle, Erica Uselton, Stephanie DeLawder, Taylor Kennedy, and Savannah Chapman each have been on the score sheet once.
FSU has had sixty percent of its total shots go on target this season.Â
Sophomore goalkeeper Shawna Graham has compiled a goals against average of 0.71 in three starts this season, allowing just two goals
through 254 minutes of play.Â
SCOUTING SHPEHERD
Shepherd has scored one goal through two games, with Abby Hoffman scoring the goal to help Shepherd defeat Concordia. Rachel Sefton assisted the goal.
The Rams return second team all-conference performer Taylor Harwood, who netted a goal and four assists last season.Â
Christi LaBella and Kelsey Rhoderick have combined to make 11 saves in net this season.Â
SU's trip to Athens will be the second of four road games in five matchups. The Rams will play Concord after traveling to Wheeling on Friday. Shepherd will return to play FSU at home before traveling to West Liberty and West Virginia Wesleyan.   Â
