Bill Edwards

Concord University Athletic Director Luke Duffy has announced the hiring of Bill Edwards as the first women's wrestling head coach at Concord on February 24, 2026.

Edwards comes to Concord after a successful tenure as the head wrestling coach at Abingdon High School in Abingdon, Virginia.

The newest head coach inside the Carter Center has been the head coach at AHS since 2019, and over the last five years he has coached three VHSL Class 3A All-State wrestlers, had two grapplers be state runners-up and seven land on the podium as state placers.

Three wrestlers went on to the collegiate level.

"I am excited to return to collegiate women's wrestling and especially to do so at Concord University," Edwards said. "President Meighen and Luke Duffy have a solid vision for the program and I am grateful to grow our sport and community. I cannot wait to bring quality student-athletes to campus to compete in the Maroon and Gray. Go Mountain Lions!"

Edwards bring collegiate experience to Athens, having spent two seasons as an assistant coach at King University, his alma mater, in Bristol, Tennessee. The Tornado had unprecedented success during the 2009 and 2010 seasons with Edwards helping coach 13 women to All-American status, including one national champion wrestler. In its infancy as a program, King women's wrestling finished 10th in the nation in year one and the following year rose to fourth with Edwards coaching under Jason Moorman who won 10 national championships at KU.

"We are excited to welcome Coach Edwards to Concord University," Duffy said. "He brings a great knowledge and passion to the sport of wrestling. We look forward to the success Coach Edwards and his athletes will bring to Athens for this brand new program."

In addition to coaching high school athletes, Edwards runs the Highlands Wrestling Club, a wrestling program at the youth level. With Edwards as the executive director, the club has produced multiple All-American youth wrestlers since 2020.

Edwards was a four-year wrestler at King where he was a founding member of the men's wrestling program in 2005. As a six-time all-academic team member, he graduated with honors with a degree in physics in 2009.

Originally from New York, Edwards was a multi-time placer at the state level in freestyle/Greco for Washingtonville High School.
