THE MOUNTAIN LIONS ARE HOT!Â
CU is riding a wave of victories early in the season. The Mountain Lions are winners of six in a row, the longest streak by any MEC team in 2026. Over that six-game stretch, Concord has lost just two sets. A big key for Concord has been winning the first set. The Mountain Lions are 8-2 when they win the first set and have only one victory when losing the first set. Â
MEC TIME
The Mountain Lions search for a MEC winning streak as they start conference play strong with a dominant win over Frostburg State. Concord held the Bobcats to a massive deficit, with a hitting percentage of .095, making that the sixth time this season the Mountain Lions' defense held their opponents to an average below .100. Freshman middle blocker Alivia Stover finished the match with the last two kills for Concord, finishing with a career high of four kills in the win.Â
TAKING THE STING OUT
Concord went 1-1 against the Yellow Jackets of West Virginia State in 2025. The win over WVSU was CU's first since November 10 of 2017, marking a huge victory for the Maroon and Gray. Senior outside hitter Meg Williams topped the charts with 12 kills and paired it with 12 digs. The Mountain Lions tallied 10 service aces in the match and closed out the fourth set holding WVSU to a hitting percentage of -0.051.Â
WILL HISTORY REPEAT ITSELF?
The series history with Charleston is lopsided with Concord posting just two wins in program history over the Golden Eagles. However, one of those wins came inside the Carter Center in 2024. The Mountain Lions pulled out a five-set thriller behind 15 kills from Williams and 12 from senior outside hitter Chloe Thompson. Senior setter Paige Richmond dished out 33 assists in the win. Concord fell in a heartbreaking four-set match against Charleston in the MEC Semifinals and will look to trounce the Golden Eagles in 2026.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
West Virginia State holds a 4-7 overall record (0-1 MEC). Carmen Pérez paces the Yellow Jackets' attack with a .232 hitting percentage while averaging 2.36 kills per set. Pérez also contributes defensively, ranking second on the team with 3.20 digs per set, while Lilly Adkins anchors the back row with a team-leading 4.59 digs per set. Â
The Golden Eagles head into the matchup holding a 6-7 overall record, which includes a 0-1 mark inside conference play. Divine Muo spearheads the offensive attack, averaging 2.52 kills per set on a .261 hitting percentage, while Kate Strong anchors the front row defense by rejecting a conference-high 1.56 blocks per set. In the back court, Sahana Rajesh paces the squad with 4.18 digs per set.
