ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University men's and women's cross country teams travel to the Southern Showcase for a second straight year Friday morning in Huntsville, Alabama at the John Hunt Cross Country Course.

LAST TIME OUT
The season opened up for the Mountain Lions at the Hokie Invite two weeks where both teams finished fourth in their respective races.

Leading the way for the Concord women was sophomore Violet Wall who placed 15^th on the 4,400-meter course with a time of 17:08. Wall was named the Mountain East Conference Athlete of the Week for her performance at Virginia Tech. Fellow sophomore Avery Lilly clocked 19:04 to finish in the top 40. Senior Abbey Londeree (19:19), junior Larah Blevins (19:23) and freshman Maddie Lilly (19:23) made up the remainder of the scoring runners for the Mountain Lions. Sophomore Emma Willie (19:25) and senior Charlotte McGinnis (20:34) were also in the top seven.

Junior Reese Hickey was the top performer for the CU men at Virginia Tech as he sported a ninth-place finish with a time of 18:43 for the 6,00-meter course. Fellow junior Brandon Canaday (16^th/19:04) and sophomore Johnny Walkup (20^th/19:14) were also in the top 20. Senior Bramley Childress came through in 26^th with a showing of 19:29 while senior Andrew Tickle grabbed the final spot in the top 30 with a time of 19:39. Rounding out the top seven for the Mountain Lions were freshmen Ben Tenney (20:43) and Oliver Jamieson (20:45).

SOUTHERN SHOWCASE PREVIEW
CU finished 32^nd in the Southern Showcase invite field in 2025 as it was sixth among non-Division I teams. The open race which the Mountain Lion men have been placed in this year is Division II heavy, featuring Concord, Alabama-Huntsville, Carson-Newman, Christian Brothers, Miles, Trevecca Nazarene, Union and West Alabama. Senior Braden Ward clocked 25:07 on the 8,000-meter terrain last year to lead CU. Canaday (26:04) and senior AJ Skeens (26:08) just missed running under 26 minutes. Alabama-Huntsville (third), West Alabama (eighth) and Christian Brothers (10^th) are all regionally ranked in the South Region by the USTFCCCA. Concord begins the weekend eighth in the USTFCCCA Atlantic Region Rankings.

The Mountain Lion women were eighth among non-Division I schools in the same field at the Southern Showcase last year. Wall was the fastest for Concord last year in a time of 18:57 for the 5,000-meter course. Lilly clocked 20:16 as she was CU's fourth runner across the line. McGinnis (21:46), sophomore Emma Willie (21:47), senior Piper Doughton (22:03) and senior Abbey Londeree (22:05) also came across the line for the Mountain Lions.
