HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Concord University men's cross country team finished second at the Southern Showcase Friday morning at the John Hunt Cross Country Course.
The Mountain Lions scored 113 points. The only team to beat CU was Pima Community College. Furthermore, CU was ahead of nine Division I and Division II schools.
Three Concord runners were in the top 20 led by senior
Braden Ward clocking 26:11 for the 8,000-metecr course and finishing 12
th. Junior
Brandon Canaday came through in 26:22 as he placed 15
th, and senior
Bramley Childress was three spots back of Canaday in a showing of 26:32.
Sophomore
Johnny Walkup dipped under 27 minutes as he finished in 26:55, good enough for 27
th. The final scoring runner for the Mountain Lions was junior
Reese Hickey who ran 27:43 to place 48
th. Senior
Andrew Tickle had a solid showing as he ran 28:05 and finished 64
th.
Other CU athletes under 30 minutes included freshman
Landon Kennedy (29:22), freshman
Oliver Jamieson (29:36) and sophomore
Zach Neal (29:48). Freshman
Roman Zentek ran 30:35.
Rounding out the Concord field was senior
Wes Holcomb (31:53), freshman
Dakota Pettry (33:04), freshman
Sam Sears (38:37) and freshman Elijah Rusell (38:53).
Concord is back in action in a week when it races at the Rams Atlantic Region Preview in Kernersville, North Carolina.
