ATHENS, W.Va. – Concord University women's basketball head coach
Tesla Southcott has announced the hiring of
Abbie Smith to the program as a graduate assistant for the upcoming 2026-27 season.
One of the best players to come through the women's basketball program at Concord, Smith ranks third in career points (1,911) and rebounds (1,529) while also ranking top five in program history in field-goal percentage, free-throw percentage, blocks and games played. She earned All-Mountain East Conference all four years of her career (2022-26), including gaining MEC Player of the Year in 2026. Furthermore, Smith was named All-Atlantic Region in 2025 and 2026, and was the Atlantic Region Player of the Year this past spring before earning Second Team All-American honors.
Smith and her senior class that also featured
Kennedy Scales won 64 games, including 18 in 2025-26—the winningest season since 2021-22.
Smith will all assist in all facets of the program, and joins second-year assistant coach
Morgan Mitchell on the bench alongside Southcott who starts her fifth season as the head coach of Concord women's basketball in November.
The Mountain Lions begin the 2026-27 season at home versus Ferrum November 9. The complete CU women's basketball schedule will be unveiled in August.
