HISTORY ON THE LINE
With the beginning of April marking the start of MEC South play, Concord has won four straight series. The Mountain Lions swept Davis & Elkins and West Virginia Wesleyan and posted a 3-1 record against West Virginia State and Charleston. With Glenville State coming up this weekend, the Maroon and Gray have a chance to win all five series against MEC South opponents for the first time since division play was introduced in 2016. Over this span, Concord has outscored opponents 133-59, highlighting success at the plate and in the field. CU's series win over West Virginia State was the first one since 2017, and the Mountain Lions knocked off Charleston in a series for the first time since 2015.
Â
SPECIAL SENIORS
Among the seniors are Matt DiSanti who was an All-MEC First Team performer last season.
Korbin Bostic was All-MEC Second Team a season ago and goes into the weekend second in the MEC in RBI (50) for the season. DiSanti is ninth in program history in career batting (.372).
Dawson Gragg is the most-tenured Mountain Lion as he gets set to play in his 150th career game this weekend. Gragg is having a career year, batting .322 on the season with 12 extra-base hits (eight doubles, four home runs) to go with a career-best 29 RBI.
Rylee Nicholas ranks top 10 in program history in career strikeouts with 152 punchouts.
Austin Hear has had a stellar year, throwing out runners with 18 caught stealings, top 10 in Division II.
Â
BREAKIN' DOWN THE SOUTH STANDINGS
With just one series remaining, the Mountain Lions hold the tiebreaker over Charleston in first place of the MEC South at 16-10 conference records. Just behind both squads is this weekend's opponent, Glenville State. The Pioneers have a 15-11 record in the MEC which has them firmly in third place. Concord is in the driver's seat in the race for first and a good result against GSU could see the Mountain Lions secure their first MEC South title since 2017.
Â
HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE
Over the past four doubleheaders with Glenville State, the home team has won both games each time. At Anderson Field a season ago, Concord secured 13-6 and 10-2 victories over the Pioneers behind some dominant offense. M. DiSanti and Bostic homered in the opener as Bostic finished with three RBI. The most recent series victory for either side in a four-game series was Concord back in 2018, who took three of four.
Â
SCOUTING THE GLENVILLE STATE PIONEERS
Glenville State takes the trip to Athens with a 26-18 overall record and 15-11 in the MEC. Glenville State is led by a very talented pitching staff, highlighted by Zach Dellerman and Grant Landis who both have sub 3.50 ERA's and 40 or more strikeouts. Offensively, Ashton Crace leads the Pioneers with a staggering .438 batting average and nine doubles. Colby Guy is the power bat for GSU, notching eight doubles and eight homers on the season.
