FROM DOWNTOWN
CU sank a season-high 16 three-pointers in the regular-season finale at Glenville State, but it wasn't enough as the Mountain Lions fell 90-89 in the contest. Junior forward Boubacar Djigo tied his career high by making four triples in the contest. Freshman guard Micah Young matched Djigo's four three-pointers as he netted a team-best 20 points at GSU in what was his seventh 20-point game of the year. Sophomore guard Josiah Rickards added three three-pointers as he continued his torrid shooting. To finish the regular season, Rickards was 8-for-12 from three-point range in the last two games after tying his career high with five triples in a win over West Virginia State last Wednesday. Junior guard Khamani Wertz came up with three three-pointers and matched a season best with six assists. The 16 triples were the most for CU in a true road game since February 2019 at Urbana.

BIG MAN BO
Djigo capped his regular season by going for his 18th double-double of the season with 18 points and 12 rebounds at Glenville State. Djigo was named the MEC Defensive Player of the Year earlier this week, the second straight Mountain Lion to earn the award after Rene Diop in 2025. Djigo's 8.6 defensive rebounds per game alone would still lead the league in total rebounds—he averages 13.0 total boards per game while second place, Glenville State's Prince Mosengo, grabs 8.5 rebounds per contest. The Cleveland, Ohio native also blocked 29 shots during the regular season. Djigo's 339 rebounds for the year are fifth most at CU for a single season, and with 11 rebounds Friday he would be just the second Mountain Lion with 350 rebounds in a single season, joining Ron Ward (463 rebounds) from the 1990-91 season.

YOUNG AND FREE
Freshman guard Micah Young landed on the All-MEC Honorable Mention squad as he became Concord's first all-conference freshman since Brian Atkins during the 2000-01 season. Among Young's 20-point performances for the season were two 30-point games, including one in a 108-100 win at Wheeling January 14. Young's 39 points are the most by a Mountain Lion this season and it was the second-highest scoring game across all MEC games during the 2025-26 regular season. Among freshmen in Division II, Young is one of the top-20 scorers averaging 14.9 points per game. The Westerville, Ohio native is top 10 in the MEC in free-throw shooting percentage this year (82.2 percent). And against Wheeling in two games this season, he averaged 30 points while shooting just under 50 percent.

RUBBER MATCH
Concord and Wheeling square off in the MEC Tournament after splitting the two regular-season meetings. The Mountain Lions picked up the eight-point road win in what was their most points scored in a regulation road game since the aforementioned February 2019 contest at Urbana. Along with Young's 39-point outburst, Rickards recorded one of his two 20-point games for the season, scoring 19 of his 20 points after halftime. Djigo contributed 17 points and 15 rebounds. Wertz and senior guard Savier McCall both netted 11 points. CU made a season-high 28 free throws, led by Rickards going 12-of-14 at the charity stripe. Just over two weeks ago in Athens on February 18, Wheeling won 77-71 which snapped Concord's seven-game winning streak over the Cardinals. Young tossed in 21 points. Djigo went for 15 points and 12 rebounds. Junior forward Anfernee Hanna added 11 points.

GET A HAND UP
The Mountain Lions and Cardinals are two of the best three-point defenses in the conference as Concord gives up the fewest three-pointers made per game at 7.1 while Wheeling is third, allowing just 8.4 triples per game to the opposition. Both teams limit opponents to 35 percent shooting from three-point distance. In the game at Wheeling in mid-January, the contest featured 22 three-pointers with CU making 12. Young (four) and Wertz (three) combined for seven. But in Athens, the defenses stood tall as the teams made a combined nine triples. Wheeling was limited to four made three-pointers and a percentage of 18.2 (4-for-22). Concord is 7-2 this season when it makes at least 10 three-pointers. Wheeling is 13-2 this year when hitting double-digit three-pointers, but one of the losses was to Concord in January.

MAY IN MARCH
Concord head coach Todd May has a knack for winning games at the MEC Tournament. In his previous nine seasons at Concord, the 10th-year head coach of the Mountain Lions has won at least one postseason game in seven of nine seasons. Five of those wins have come in the quarterfinal round as Concord is seeking to get to its third straight MEC Semifinal, a feat that has not been accomplished in the MEC-era (since 2014) and has not been done by the CU men's basketball program since the WVIAC days from 1994-96. Friday will be Concord's first MEC Tournament game versus Wheeling since the 2018 Semifinals. Under Coach May, CU is 1-1 all-time in the quarterfinal round as a six seed, defeating Fairmont State in 2018 and losing to Charleston in 2022.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
18- Double-doubles by Djigo this season are the sixth most in a single-season in MEC history. His next double-double would tie him with West Virginia Wesleyan's Tanner McGrew from the 2015-16 season for fifth.

21- Points per game by Rickards in last year's MEC Tournament as he named to the All-MEC Tournament Team.

23- Season-high offensive rebounds in the win over Wheeling earlier this season.

SCOUTING THE CARDINALS
Wheeling earned its highest seeding at the MEC Tournament since the 2018 Cardinals were the two seed on their way to the conference championship. WU garnered the MEC Freshman of the Year, Ayden Goll, and the MEC Coach of the Year, Chris Richardson. Goll (18.1 points per game) is one of three Wheeling players averaging double figures. Caleb Murray (15.9 points) and Tee Harris (14.4 points) also net double figures. Harris went for 21 points at Concord last month. Murray is fourth in the MEC in made three-pointers (78). The Cardinals enter the MEC Tournament as one of the hottest teams in the conference, having won five straight games and seven of their last eight games.
