PRODUCTION AT THE BOTTOM
The Mountain Lions had three players with multiple hits in a game in the doubleheader at Francis Marion, and two of them came from the seventh and eighth hitters in the lineup in game one, senior outfielder
Korbin Bostic and senior infielder
Tyson Burke. Both players were 2-for-4 in the season opener with Burke driving in a run. Dating back to last season, Burke has hit safely in seven of the last 11 games. And Bostic is picking right where he left off a season ago after he recorded 12 multi-hit games—the fourth-most on the team in 2025. The Logan, West Virginia native finished the regular season by recording a hit in five of the last six regular season games.
OFF ON THE RIGHT FOOT
Senior catcher
Kaden Swaim picked up two preseason All-American honors with a First Team selection to both D2Baseball.com and National Collegiate Baseball Writers' Association (NCBWA) All-American Teams. On opening weekend, Swaim backed up the preseason honors by going 3-for-7 with two RBI. The Winston-Salem, North Carolina native drew a walk in an eighth plate appearance. He had an RBI in each game and bagged two hits in the second game at Francis Marion. It was Swaim's 18
th career multi-hit game in the Maroon and Gray. Last season, Swaim opened up the season by hitting safely in the first six games and nine of the first 10 contests of 2025.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS
Concord's best outing on the mound at Francis Marion came from freshman
Jonah Adams. In his collegiate debut, Adams came on in relief and limited FMU to two hits and a run in four innings. He also tallied two strikeouts. Adams faced a total of 14 batters—the third most of any Concord pitcher over the weekend and only allowed three to reach. Fellow freshman pitcher
Ethan Evans was stout in his first college appearance as well. In game two against the Patriots, Evans retired both batters he faced to keep the margin 4-1. Other scoreless outings for CU including senior
Kerry Collins (1.0 innings) and freshman
Brogan Dent (0.2 innings).
CAT FIGHT
Sunday will be the first time the Mountain Lions oppose the Panthers of Ferrum on the diamond in program history. FC is in its first year of Division II, playing in the Conference Carolinas—the same league as Francis Marion. Concord is seeking its seventh win in the last eight tries against teams from the state of Virginia. Last year, the Mountain Lions were a combined 3-1 against Emory & Henry and UVa.-Wise. Against UVa.-Wise last season, senior catcher
Austin Hear was 5-for-7 with a home run and four RBI. In CU's last game against a team from Virginia, Emory & Henry April 15, 2025, CU swatted a single-game program record 10 home runs. Junior infielder
Nick DiSanti and Swaim each had two. Bostic, Burke and senior infielder
Matthew DiSanti were responsible for one each.
SCOUTING THE PANTHERS
Tyler Mason hit .340 a season ago with 10 extra-base hits and 25 RBI. He is the top returning hitter for Ferrum. JJ Mulhern was a .305 hitters last spring with eight extra-base hits and 17 RBI. On the mound, Jai Penn won three games as he rolled up 48 strikeouts in 58 innings. Brayden Weeks appeared in 16 games last year as he tossed 31 innings. In their last year in Division III, Ferrum went 20-22 and lost in the first round of the ODAC Tournament.
