THE ANT MAN
On Monday night at Bluefield State, junior forward
Anfernee Hanna recorded 20 points which was his fourth 20-point game of the season, and first since January 10 when he totaled a career-high 32 points versus Davis & Elkins. The Nassau, Bahamas native made a difference on both ends of the floor as he recorded a career-best seven rebounds and added a single-game best three steals. Hanna did a bulk of his damage from the foul line where he finished 10-for-12. This season, Hanna is sixth in the MEC in free-throw shooting (82.7) and is one of the best players at getting to the foul line as he has taken the fifth-most foul shots in the conference (101). Overall, Hanna ranks 13
th in scoring in the MEC at 14.8 points per game, just 0.1 behind teammate and freshman guard
Micah Young.
YOUNG AND FREE
Speaking of Young, he dropped in 25 points Monday night as he finished a perfect 9-for-9 at the foul line to tie a career high in made free throws. Among true freshmen in the MEC, Young leads the way at 14.9 points per game—Wheeling redshirt freshman guard Ayden Goll scores 17.8 points per game. Frostburg State's Mitch Finefrock is second in true freshmen scoring behind Young at 13.5 points per game. The Westerville, Ohio native is now second in the MEC in foul shooting (88.3 percent/53-for-60) after Monday night. He also leads the Mountain Lions in clutch time scoring this season with 24 points in the final three minutes of games when the score is within 10 points. And including Young's career-best 39 points at Wheeling January 14, he is averaging 24.8 points per game while shooting 49.5 percent from the floor in the last seven games.
STEPPING UP
The Mountain Lions squared off with Bluefield State Monday down its top two scorers on the season in junior forward
Boubacar Djigo (15.2 points) and sophomore forward
Kraig Gilbert (16.3 points). Starting for Djigo was junior forward
Eldon Terry. The Brockton, Massachusetts native was stout in his first career start in the Maroon and Gray as he grabbed a career-best 10 rebounds and blocked three shots, matching a career high. Additionally, he played a career-high 28 minutes which doubled his previous career high of 14. After coming off the bench in the previous two games, sophomore guard
Josiah Rickards returned to the lineup for his 31
st career start. He dropped in 13 points which was his seventh game in double figures this season. Like Hanna and Young, Rickards has been exceptional at the foul line this season, sitting seventh in free-throw percentage in the MEC (51-for-62/82.3 percent). He has made 31 of his last 33 foul shots.
BO & JO
Concord blitzed Salem in a 101-75 win January 3 at the Carter Center as Djigo and Rickards led the way for CU. Though the Mountain Lions shot just 45.3 percent from the floor, they connected on 15 three-pointers with Djigo (four) and Rickards (three) combining for seven. Djigo was an efficient 9-for-13 from the floor in scoring a career-best 27 points while Rickards had one of his two 20-point games this winter by going 5-for-7 from the field, 3-of-5 from three-point range and a perfect 7-of-7 at the foul line. Djigo also added a career-best three blocks in the game. With Rickards pacing the team, Concord went 18-for-21 at the foul line against Salem, one of 12 times in 19 games that the Maroon and Gray has made 80 percent or better of their free throws this season.
DISH IT OUT
CU recorded 25 assists against Salem in the victory which at the time was a season high, only to be bested in the following game versus West Virginia Wesleyan. Sophomore guard
John Gabbert posted a career-best six assists in the contest while junior guard
Khamani Wertz, who is just outside the top five in the MEC in assists per game (3.4), tallied five assists. A total of 10 Mountain Lions had at least one assist in the game. This season, Concord is 9-4 when it racks up 12 or more assists in a game. And a similarly, the Mountain Lions are 9-3 when they commit less than 15 turnovers in a game. The only win CU has when turning the ball over 15 or more times this year is the January 3 meeting versus Salem when it had 16 giveaways.
OWN THE BOARDS
The Mountain Lions have been a force to be reckon with on the boards all season long as they have only been outrebounded seven times. In early January, Concord had its fourth-best rebounding margin of the season against Salem at +16, 48-32. Djigo averages 13.1 rebounds per game, but was held to seven boards against the Tigers. Terry snatched seven rebounds in 14 minutes off the bench. Sophomore guard
Brendan Hoffman equaled a career high with five rebounds in 15 minutes. Of the 14 players that saw action against Salem, 13 recorded at least one rebound. Concord is 9-3 this season when it outrebounds the opposition. CU is third in the MEC in rebounding margin this season, +4.6. For the year, Salem has a rebounding margin of -2.7. Salem has had a rebounding edge in only nine games this winter.

SCOUTING THE TIGERS
After winning six games each of the past two years, Salem surpassed that number by winning its seventh game of the year in an 87-84 victory over Davis & Elkins Saturday. Zahki Fallen is SU's leading scorer at 18.7 points per game, but is averaging 23.2 points in his last eight games. He scored 17 points at Concord January 3. Eman Lawal had a 20-point double-double versus CU a month ago with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Lawal (17.9), Jamari Gamble (14.4) and Xavier Price (11.4) all average double figures. The Tigers outshot Concord (46.2 percent to 45.3 percent) in the first meeting this season, but only made four three-pointers to Concord's 15.
