BO GOES BIG
Junior forward
Boubacar Djigo paced the Mountain Lions in a win over West Virginia State Wednesday night as he tallied 23 points and grabbed 15 rebounds. It was Djigo's third 20-15 game of the season, and the 17th time this year that he has posted a double-double. Djigo's 17 double-doubles are tied for third in Division II, and are the most double-doubles for a Concord player since game-by-game statistics were tracked prior to the 2007-08 season. Djigo is currently tied for sixth in MEC single-season double-doubles with Phil Bledsoe of Glenville State during the 2018-19 season. The single-season record for doubles in the MEC is 29 by Wheeling's Haywood Highsmith in 2017-18. The Cleveland, Ohio native is tied for eighth in the conference in points per game (16.2) and leads the MEC in rebounding per game (13.1).
LIGHT IT UP
CU connected on 10 three-pointers in the win over West Virginia State with eight coming in the first half—Concord's first seven made field goals of the game were three-pointers. Concord improved to 7-1 this season when it makes double-digit three-pointers. Sophomore guard
Josiah Rickards tied his career with five made three-pointers in the game as he started 4-for-4 from beyond the arc before settling for a 5-of-7 game from three-point distance. He scored 17 points versus West Virginia State. Junior guard
Khamani Wertz drilled three three-pointers which were the most for the Charlotte, North Carolina native since the January 14 game at Wheeling. Wertz netted his fifth game this season in double figures. The only game that Concord has lost this season when it makes 10 or more three-pointers was in the first meeting against Glenville State January 23. GSU is second in the conference in made three-pointers per game at 11.3.
SPECIALTY POINTS
Even though the Mountain Lions made 10 triples in the game and shot nearly 47 percent in the contest against West Virginia State, CU's edge in points off turnovers, +9 (15-6) and second-chance points, +17 (23-6) were the difference. Wednesday night marked the eighth time this year that the Maroon and Gray netted at least 20 second-chance points, but the 17-point difference was the largest of the season, surpassing the +16 margin against Salem in a January home win. Defensively, the game against the Yellow Jackets was the ninth time this winter that Concord held the opposition under 10 points on second-chance opportunities. Djigo accounted for 10 of the 23 second-chance points while 15 of the 23 second-chance points for the CU came after halftime versus WVSU. The Mountain Lions are averaging 16.4 second-chance points per game this winter.
POINTS AND MORE POINTS
The first matchup with Glenville State this season featured 212 points as GSU defeated Concord 112-100. Freshman guard
Micah Young netted one of his two 30-point games this season as he finished with 35 points that included a career-best six three-pointers—the most for any CU player this season. Djigo added 22 points and 12 rebounds. Junior forward
Anfernee Hanna tallied 17 points while sophomore guard
Brendan Hoffman went for 13 points in his only start of the year. Concord shot 49.3 percent from the floor, but was unable to slow down Glenville State as the Pioneers shot 54.3 percent at the Carter Center. Over the last 12 games, Hanna is averaging 14.9 points per game and ranks 16
th in the MEC in scoring. Young is 14
th in the MEC in scoring at 14.7 points per contest.
GET IN THE PAINT
The Mountain Lions netted 40 of their 84 points in the paint against West Virginia State to improve to 10-3 this season when they score at least 40 points in the lane—the only losses are to Pitt-Johnstown in the second game of the season, last Sunday against nationally-ranked West Liberty and the first meeting with Glenville State in late January. Concord shot 72 percent (23-for-32) in the painted area against the Pioneers. Glenville State is one of the best teams at keeping teams out of the paint as GSU has only allowed 40 or more points in paint four times this season. The Pioneers are in the middle of the pack in the MEC in blocked shots per game at 3.3 which ranks sixth. GSU is coming off a game where it only gave up 24 points in the paint in a 79-78 loss to Charleston.
WINNING ON THE ROAD
CU has already locked up a winning record on the road this season, regardless of outcome Saturday afternoon. The Maroon and Gray is 7-5 in true road games in 2025-26, marking the third straight season of having a winning record away from the Carter Center. Concord is also seeking to win its second straight game inside GSU's Waco Center, a feat the program has not accomplished since four straight road wins at Glenville State from February 2016 through December 2018. Last January, the Mountain Lions shot nearly 56 percent and knocked down 25 free throws as it defeated Glenville State, 92-85, on the Pioneers' home court. Rickards had 11 points in 19 minutes off the bench. Concord held a 38-22 edge in points in the paint, and had to survive 13 made three-pointers by GSU.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
10- Rebounds needed by Djigo to move into the top five in single-season rebounding at CU. He enters Saturday with 327 boards for the year.
15- Consecutive games with a blocked shot for junior forward
Eldon Terry after recording four against West Virginia State.
17- CU's national ranking in offensive rebounds per game (14.0).
SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
GSU enters the weekend trying to stop a three-game losing streak as the latest two defeats, to Charleston and Wheeling, have come by a combined four points. Elijah Redfern netted 30 points at Concord in January, and is Glenville State's second-leading scorer at 16.0 points per game. Jalen Knott is fourth in the conference in scoring at 17.4 points per contest. Knott leads the three-point barrage for the Pioneers with 92 made triples on the year, second in the MEC. Corey Boulden has been successful on 57 three-pointers, and Don Colon-Lewis has drilled 56 triples.
