BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The Concord University baseball team has swept the Mountain East Conference Weekly Awards with senior outfielder
Korbin Bostic being named MEC Player of the Week and
Kaden Varela-Payne picking up MEC Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season.
The MEC Player and Pitcher of the Week are presented The Health Plan.
Bostic, a native of Logan, West Virginia, had an outstanding week as he batted .500 (7-for-14) with two home runs, two doubles and 14 RBI. He slugged nearly 1.100 for the week and had an on-base + slugging percentage (OPS) approaching 1.800. Bostic started his week with six RBI as part of a 3-for-3 day against Bluefield State in a 12-11 win. He added a grand slam in the backend of the twinbill with Bluefield State.
In winning the Shepherd series, Bostic had at least one RBI in each game, and in the first game of the series, a 20-11 CU win, he was 2-for-2 and reached base all six times at the plate. He added six runs scored for the week.
Varela-Payne picks up his second MEC Pitcher of the Week after earning his first win at Concord against Bluefield State. The Raleigh, North Carolina native went six innings against BSU on Wednesday as he allowed seven hits and two earned runs. He struck out five batters.
The Mountain Lions are back in action 11:00 a.m. Saturday as they start a three-game set versus Kutztown at Anderson Field. Â
