Smith Earns MEC Player of the Week

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. - Senior forward Abbie Smith of the Concord University women's basketball team has been named Mountain East Conference Player of the Week, presented by The Health Plan, the conference office announced Monday afternoon.
 
Smith receives the award after three stellar games in Concord's victories over Fairmont State, West Virginia Wesleyan and Davis & Elkins.
 
The Little Hocking, Ohio native averaged 19.6 points and 11.3 rebounds per game in the 3-0 week for CU.
 
She started the week with 13 points, six rebounds and four blocks as Concord cruised to an 89-58 win over Fairmont State. In the home win over WVWC, Smith led all scorers with 24 points. She went 9-of-16 from the floor, tacking on seven rebounds and a pair of blocks.
 
The Little Hocking, Ohio native put up a monstrous stat line on the road against Davis & Elkins. Smith dropped in 22 points on 9-of-12 shooting and made history on the glass. Smith brought down 21 rebounds to secure her first career 20-20 game. This was the first 20-20 game for Concord since Riley Fitzwater in February of 2018.
 
Smith sits at second in the MEC in scoring (18.3 points per game), first in rebounds per game (10.7), tied for second in blocks (1.3), first in field-goal percentage (56.2 percent), and first in free-throw percentage (85.8 percent).
 
Winners of five straight games, Concord hosts Wheeling on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m inside the Carter Center.
