TRIPLE THREAT
In defeating West Virginia Wesleyan 89-67 Wednesday night at home, the Mountain Lions connected on 10 three-pointers. Sophomore guard Josiah Rickards made all three of his three-point attempts while senior guard Savier McCall and junior guard Khamani Wertz were responsible for two triples each. Over his last four games, Rickards is shooting 42.3 percent from three-point range (11-for-26), which is 12 percent better than the Chesapeake, Virginia native is shooting for the year. McCall tied his career high in made three-pointers versus the Bobcats Wednesday. Wertz had two three-pointers for the first time in a game since Frostburg State, five games ago. CU is 6-1 this season when it makes 10 or more three-pointers in a game, and the Mountain Lions are five three-pointers away from having 200 made triples for the 10th time in the last 11 seasons.

EVERYONE REBOUNDS
Concord held a 48-34 rebounding advantage against West Virginia Wesleyan. Junior forward Boubacar Djigo grabbed a game-high nine rebounds which was four below his season average. However, three other Mountain Lions had at least five rebounds in the contest. Freshman guard Micah Young tied his career high with seven rebounds. Three of the five rebounds that junior forward Anfernee Hanna ripped down were on the offensive end, and McCall also threw in five boards. Rebounding will be a focal point for Concord in the second matchup with Davis & Elkins after the Senators controlled the glass, 49-34, in Athens January 10. D&E turned 15 offensive rebounds into 19 second-chance points. Concord is +5.2 on the glass for the year while Davis & Elkins is -1.4 despite having a 15-board advantage in the first meeting with Concord.

D FOR DEFEND
The Mountain Lions had one of their best defensive outings of the season in the victory over WVWC, holding the Bobcats to 39.1 percent shooting overall and 21.1 percent (4-for-19) from three-point distance. It marked the second time in the last five games and the fourth time overall this winter that CU has held the opponent to less than 40 percent shooting—Concord limited Bluefield State to less than 40 percent in both matchups this year and kept Virginia Union to 37.5 percent shooting. Wednesday night also marked the second lowest shooting percentage from three-point range for a CU opponent—the Maroon and Gray held Wesleyan to 15.4 percent from three-point distance in the road matchup January 7. Overall, the Maroon and Gray has kept the opposition at or under 30 percent five times this season with three of those coming in the last five games.

CAREER DAY
In Concord's 85-83 loss to Davis & Elkins in early January, Hanna exploded for a career-best 32 points on an efficient 10-for-12 shooting. He went 3-of-3 from three-point distance and made 9-of-11 free throws. Of the seven two-point field goals Hanna converted against the Senators, all of them were in the paint. It was the first 30-point game of the season for any Mountain Lion at the time—Young has posted two 30-point games since, at Wheeling (39 points on January 14) and versus Glenville State (35 points on January 23). Hanna enters Saturday averaging 14.5 points per game which is third on the team and 14th in the MEC. Over his last eight games, Hanna has scored at least 15 points six times. He has done the bulk of his damage from either two-point distance or on free throws as he has only made 16 three-pointers this year, and none over the last five games.

DOWN TO THE WIRE
Concord and Davis & Elkins have found themselves in some close games in the recent past. Three of the last four games between the teams have been decided by eight points or less. The Mountain Lions were unable to close out the game in January in which they led by five points with less than three minutes to go. At Davis & Elkins last season, Concord and D&E needed overtime to decide a winner. Despite leading for less than 10 minutes in the game, the Maroon and Gray rallied late in regulation to force overtime. CU outscored the Senators 14-9 in the extra session to hang on for a 78-73 win. And when the teams met in the MEC Tournament Quarterfinals two seasons ago, it was Concord that finished the game on a 16-9 run over the final five minutes to emerge victorious, 82-74. The Mountain Lions had won five straight over D&E before the January loss.

MAKE YOUR FOUL SHOTS
The Mountain Lions and Senators are similar in a lot of ways as both teams shoot around 45 percent from the floor, hit on 33 percent of their three-point attempts and average between 81 and 83 points this season. One stark difference though is Concord's ability to make free throws. The Maroon and Gray leads the MEC and is 12th in Division II in foul shooting (78.7 percent). Davis & Elkins is ninth in the conference, shooting 71.6 percent from the free-throw line. Individually, CU has three of the top seven foul shooters in the MEC among qualified players: Young (third/87.1 percent), Hanna (sixth/82.4 percent) and Rickards (seventh/81.9 percent). Davis & Elkins' top foul shooter is Vegas Evans at 77.2 percent. In January, both teams were steady from the charity stripe as Concord went 20-for-25 and D&E converted 17-of-22 at the foul line.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
3- Concord is seeking its third straight road win at Davis & Elkins, a feat that hasn't been accomplished since January 2013 through February 2020.

19- Points by Young in the first game against Davis & Elkins this year, a career high at the time.

150- Head coach Todd May's next win would be the 150th of his career. Among active coaches in the MEC, he is the third winngest at their current school.

SCOUTING THE SENATORS
Davis & Elkins is 1-8 since it beat Concord inside the Carter Center. Evans, who is D&E second-leading scorer, did not play in the January meeting. The Senators got 17 points from Matthew Gray who is the leading scorer at 16.4 points per game. Darrius Roach (16) and Dontrell Jenkins (13) combined for 29 points off the bench. The Senators give up 85.6 points per game and allow the opposition to shoot 47 percent from the floor, although they held Concord to 40.9 percent earlier this season.
