FLAME THROWERS
Concord made a season-high 15 three-pointers in Saturday's 101-75 win over Salem as the Maroon and Gray shot 40.5 percent (15-for-37) from beyond the arc. Individually, junior forward
Boubacar Djigo canned a career-high four three-pointers on five attempts. Sophomore forward
Kraig Gilbert hit three triples which was the 13
th straight game of Gilbert making at least two three-pointers. Sophomore guard
Josiah Rickards tied his career high with three three-pointers. As a team, Concord has made 47 three-pointers in the last four games which are the most in a four-game stretch February 16-27, 2019. The Mountain Lions have been efficient from three-point range as well, shooting 44.7 percent (47-for-106) from beyond the arc over the last four games. CU shot 52 percent (13-of-25) from three-point land in upsetting number eight Fairmont State December 20.
DISH IT OUT
In defeating Salem, the Mountain Lions notched 25 assists which bested the previous season high of 22 set December 10 against Frostburg State. CU's 25 assists were the most for the Maroon and Gray since February 2022 against Davis & Elkins. Sophomore guard
John Gabbert passed out a career-high six assists in a career-best 19 minutes off the bench. Junior guard
Khamani Wertz tied his season high with five assists. In six games this season, Wertz has an assist-to-turnover ratio of 4-to-1 with 20 assists to five turnovers. Against Salem, 10 different players recorded at least one assist with six players tallying two or more assists. During its six-game winning streak, Concord has assisted on 54.6 percent of its made field goals (106 of 194). The Mountain Lions are averaging 17.6 assists per game during its win streak.
THEFT AND REJECTION
Concord was outshot by Salem (46.2-45.3) in Saturday's win. The 15 three-pointers were a big difference in CU's victory as was the Mountain Lions collecting a season-best eight steals and coming away with a season-best nine blocks. Seven different Concord players had a steal versus Salem with sophomore guard
Brendan Hoffman grabbing two steals. The eight steals for Concord were the most since December 15, 2024 versus Fairmont State. In his four games back from injury, Hoffman has tallied seven steals. On the glass, both Djigo and junior forward
Eldon Terry recorded a career-high three blocks. Gilbert swatted two shots Saturday which moved him into tenth all-time at CU in blocked shots with 72 career rejections. The Maroon and Gray is first in the MEC in blocks per game (5.0) which is also tied for 13
th in Division II.
WINNING AT THE ROCK
The Mountain Lions have won 11 straight over West Virginia Wesleyan that dates back to February 2020, and Concord has notched five straight victories at WVWC's Rockefeller Center. Last year's win came in overtime as Djigo hit a game-tying free throw in regulation before All-American guard
Kollin Tolbert tossed in a layup at the overtime buzzer, giving Concord an 89-87 win. Three of the five wins for CU have been by double-double digits. Gilbert went for 11 points and five rebounds last season at Wesleyan. He scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the first meeting with West Virginia Wesleyan last season. Offensively, Concord has shot 47 percent or better in three of the last five games at the Rockefeller Center. The only other MEC team that Concord has defeated three or more times on the road consecutively is Wheeling.
STAY HOT
Along with the blistering display from the three-point line, CU has been steady during its winning streak from the field overall, shooting 45 percent or better in five of those games. The consistent shooting has taken the Mountain Lions to 45.3 percent from the field for the season which ranks seventh in the conference. Concord is averaging 81.7 points per game—the first time all season being above 80 points. Both the shooting percentage and points will have a chance to keep rising Wednesday night. West Virginia Wesleyan is allowing 94 points per game and the opposition is shooting 49 percent against the Bobcats. In the last five games at WVWC, Concord is averaging 82.4 points per game. The Mountain Lions are 6-0 this season when they score at least 80 points. On the flip side, the Bobcats have allowed 80 or more points in eight of 11 games this season. Â
ON BOARD
The Mountain Lions are coming off a game against Salem where they outrebounded the Tigers 48-32. In the contest, CU grabbed a season-high 18 offensive rebounds. Concord yanked down the 48 rebounds despite Djigo—the nation's second-leading rebounder at 13.3 per game—only collecting seven rebounds. Terry went for a career-best seven boards. Hoffman matched his career best with five rebounds. Of the 14 players that saw the floor against Salem, 13 had at least one rebound. The +16 margin on the glass versus the Tigers took Concord's season-rebounding margin to 6.4 which is second in the conference, and top 50 in Division II. The Maroon and Gray averages the most offensive rebounds in the MEC (14.5). And West Virginia Wesleyan gives up nearly 14 offensive rebounds per game (13.8).

SCOUTING THE BOBCATS
Isaiah Baker (11.0) and Stephen Ovia (10.1) are the only two West Virginia Wesleyan players averaging double figures. WVWC has mixed and matched its starting lineups with 12 different players starting at least one game this season. Only Ovia has started 10 or more games. Two of the last three games for the Bobcats have been decided by six points or less, a 76-75 defeat to Salem before Christmas, and a 78-72 loss versus Wheeling on Saturday. The Bobcats dug out of a 42-26 halftime deficit versus Wheeling. The Salem contest for WVWC featured 16 lead changes and 12 ties.
