HOT STREAK
Freshman guard Micah Young continued his torrid January stretch against Glenville State Friday night. The Westerville, Ohio native recorded his second 30-point performance this month with 35 points on 13-for-23 shooting. Young is just one of three players in the MEC this season with multiple games of 35 or more points. He tossed in 39 points at Wheeling January 14. Over the last five games, Young is averaging 26.6 points while shooting 52.1 percent from the floor. In the first 12 games of the season, Young had only made eight three-pointers, but over the last five games he has connected on 16 triples. And against Glenville State, Young drained six three-pointers which were the most for any Mountain Lion this winter. Young is shooting 44.4 percent (16-for-36) from beyond the arc in the last five contests.

RARE SCORING AIR
The Mountain Lions poured in 100 points versus Glenville State—that was after they netted 91 points at Charleston last Wednesday. Since the start of the 2026 portion of the schedule, CU has seen its points per games rise nearly six points for the season, from 79.8 to 85.2. The Maroon and Gray starts the week ranked sixth in the conference in points per game which is also 34th nationally. For the year, Concord has already topped 90 points seven times which is one shy of matching last year's team that scored 90 or more in eight regulation games. Overall, the 2024-25 squad netted 90 or more 10 total times thanks to two triple overtime games versus West Virginia State and Charleston. Last year's team finished tied for sixth in program history in points per game (88.2) while this year's team would currently rank 15th in all-time single-season scoring.

FIGHTING OFF THE FALCONS
Concord has won two straight games over Fairmont State, dating back to last January's win at Joe Retton Arena. Earlier this season, Concord picked up a 95-87 win on the road over the then eighth-ranked team in Division II. Junior forward Anfernee Hanna led the way with 23 points on 8-for-13 shooting, including making all three of his three-point attempts. Fellow junior forward Boubacar Djigo followed with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore guard Brendan Hoffman provided a lift off the bench with 16 points in 21 minutes while Young tallied 14 points. Wednesday's meeting with the fourth straight time that CU faces the Fighting Falcons when they are ranked. The last time the Mountain Lions defeated FSU in consecutive games was during the 2014-15 season, just 39 days apart. And the last time Concord defeated Fairmont State in three straight games was a stretch during the 1996-97 and 1997-98 seasons.

CLOSE CALLS
Six of the last eight games between CU and the Fighting Falcons have been decided by six points or less, including last year's 94-89 win at Fairmont State. And even this year's first meeting was a three-point game with 68 seconds remaining before the Mountain Lions closed out the game at the foul line. The last two games inside the Carter Center between the two sides have been decided by a single point each time. In January 2024, Kollin Tolbert was good on a left wing three-pointer with three seconds left to lift the Mountain Lions to a 69-68 victory. Last season, Concord held a 76-75 edge with 13 seconds remaining after a pair of three throws by Corey Boston, but it was Fairmont State's two foul shots with three seconds left that was the difference in the game. CU was unable to get a last-second shot off in December 2024 versus the Fighting Falcons.

BO KNOWS RENE
Djigo squares off with his former teammate Rene Diop Wednesday night at the Carter Center as Diop and former Concord assistant coach Trent Howard make their return to Athens. With Diop leaving Concord at the conclusion of the 2024-25 season, Djigo has shined in his starting role after backing up Diop the previous two seasons. Djigo's 12 double-doubles are tied for third in Division II this season. Djigo is second in Division II in rebounds per game (13.1). Not only did Djigo and the Mountain Lions get the better of the team matchup at Fairmont State in December, Diop was held to six points and two rebounds, though he did have six blocks. In his time in the Maroon and Gray, Diop recorded 137 blocks which is third in program history, over his three years at CU.

BUST THE BOARDS
Much like matchups between Concord and Fairmont State in the recent past, the rebounding battle will be crucial Wednesday night. The Mountain Lions and FSU are the top two rebounding teams in the conference. Fairmont State is outrebounding teams by an average of 7.7 this season, best in the MEC. Concord follows behind with a rebounding margin of 5.4. The sides are also first and second in the league in offensive rebounding. CU pulls down 13.8 offensive rebounds per contest while Fairmont State plucks down 13.6 offensive boards per game. Earlier this season, Fairmont State had a 40-35 rebounding advantage—CU's only win this season when losing the rebounding battle. The Mountain Lions had 16 offensive rebounds while Fairmont State was one better, but both teams finished with 16 second-chance points. While Djigo does the heavy lifting on the boards for CU, Fairmont State has four players with at least five rebounds per game, led by Drey Carter's 7.5.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
9- Concord started the year by winning nine straight games which it owned the rebounding advantage, but has fallen in back-to-back games when winning on the boards.

13- Djigo's next double-double will be his 13th of the season which would tie him with Daniel Rahama (2022-23) and Terry Hopewell (2015-16) for the most by a Concord player in the last 20 seasons.

58- Second-half points scored by Concord at Fairmont State in December.

SCOUTING THE FIGHTING FALCONS
Carter is at the top of the list as one of the favorites for MEC Player of the Year as he enters Wednesday night averaging 16.8 points, sixth in the MEC, while shooting 60.5 percent from the floor. Carter netted 23 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and dished out five assists in the first game against CU. David Jolinder, who is closing in on 1,500 career points, averages 12.9 points per game. West Virginia State transfer Miguel Martinez has converted 55 three-pointers as part of his 14.4 points per game. FSU has the best per game point differential in the MEC (16.8).
