ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University men's basketball team was unable to keep pace with Glenville State in the second half in a Mountain East Conference game as CU was defeated 112-100 Friday night at the Carter Center.
Leading 49-48 at halftime after a midrange jumper by junior forward
Boubacar Djigo beat the first-half buzzer. The teams traded the lead six times in the first 6:17 of the second half as freshman guard
Micah Young pushed CU (10-7, 7-4 MEC) ahead 61-59 with a three-pointer at the 13:43 mark.
Djigo followed with a lob dunk from Young 23 seconds later to extend the lead. After Glenville State (11-7, 6-5 MEC) cut the margin to one point, Young answered with his second three-pointer in a 48-second span.
Leading by four points, 66-62, the Mountain Lions watched GSU score the next 14 points to take a 74-66 edge. The advantage got as high as 13 points, 81-68, before the Mountain Lions began to chip away.
Another Young three-pointer at the 5:03 mark capped a 17-9 run to get Concord within five points, 90-85. Just over a minute later, Young struck for another triple to once again reduce the deficit to five points, 94-89.
It was as close as Concord would get over the final 3:51 of the game.
The first two minutes of the contest belonged to Concord as Young scored seven of CU's first nine points to open up a 9-2 lead. GSU tied the game at 21-21 just over eight minutes into the game, and neither team led by more than five points the rest of the first half.
Behind a career-high six three-pointers, Young netted 35 points on 13-for-23 shooting. The six triples were the most for any Concord player this season. Djigo finished with a double-double of 22 points and 12 rebounds as he shot 9-for-13.
Junior forward
Anfernee Hanna scored 17 points. And sophomore guard
