ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University women's track & field team competed at the Liberty Open Friday.
The Mountain Lions put forth several personal-record performances.
The success was led by freshman
Violet Wall who recorded two career-best times. Wall clocked a time of 2:20.63 in the 800-meter run to rise to second in the Mountain East Conference in the event this winter. She also finished second in the field at Liberty.
In the mile, Wall came through in 5:17.22 to place 13
th. Her time was a second faster than her showing at Marshall two weeks ago.
Also in the 800-meters, junior
Charlotte McGinnis sported a career-best time of 2:37.35, and fellow junior
Piper Doughton did likewise with a time of 2:40.94.
In the 5,000-meter run, junior
Sara Turner came through in a personal-record time of 19:26.86 which was good enough for sixth, and also places her in the top 16 of the MEC.
McGinnis added a second personal-record time in the mile as she clocked 5:52.84.
Doughton and sophomore
Larah Blevins were stellar in the 3,000-meter run with both scoring career-best showing. Blevins recorded a time of 12:08.30 while Douhgton came through in 12:14.88.
And representing Concord in the field events were strong efforts from freshman
Chloe Cox and junior Megan Poticher. Poticher's throw of 9.99 meters was a season best and also good enough for eighth. Cox placed 19
th with a throw of 8.71 meters.
The Mountain Lions are back in action January 30-31 at the Bast-Cregger Invite hosted by Roanoke College.
