WHAT A WEEK
Freshman guard
Micah Young made quite the impression in his first two career starts last week. Already averaging 10.3 points per game through the first 13 games of his college career, the Westerville, Ohio native netted 31 points per game in two contests. At Wheeling, Young paced the Mountain Lions with a career-best 39 points as he had the second-highest scoring game in the MEC this season, and the highest-scoring game for a Mountain Lion in 2025-26. In the process, Young became the 11
th Concord player under head coach
Todd May to tally a 30-point game. Â Young poured in 23 points against West Liberty Saturday afternoon as he was named the MEC Player of the Week. In his first two games in January, Young only scored eight points on 3-for-13 shooting, but since he is averaging 26.6 points in three games on 51.7 shooting.
MR. ENERGY
Saturday against West Liberty was sophomore guard
Brendan Hoffman's eighth game of the season. The Charleston, West Virginia native has been a spark plug for Concord off the bench. He tied his season high with 23 minutes played against West Liberty while coming away with a career-high four steals—also the most for a CU player in a single game this season. Only averaging 17.3 minutes per game, Hoffman is netting 6.9 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game. Though he has played seven less games than most on the Concord roster, Hoffman leads the Mountain Lions with 13 steals for the season. And he has made at least one three-pointer in six of eight games. The final game that Hoffman missed this season was the home game against Charleston before making his season debut December 10 versus Frostburg State.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE WATCH
Junior forward
Boubacar Djigo starts the week with averages of 15.7 points and 12.9 rebounds per game. The Cleveland, Ohio native recorded his 10
th double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds versus West Liberty. The Concord five man is one of nine players in Division II to average a double-double just past the halfway point of the season. Djigo only needs to grab 86 more rebounds through the final 13 games of the season to average a double-double for the 2025-26 regular season. The last Concord player to average a double-double for a season was Daniel Rahama during the 2022-23 season. Earlier this year, Djigo had 17 points and 15 rebounds in Concord's 82-78 win over Charleston. Djigo has six games of 15 or more rebounds this winter.
STREAK SNAPPED
Djigo's double-double was a big reason that Concord defeated Charleston in early December at the Carter Center, snapping an 11-game losing streak to the Golden Eagles. The Mountain Lions got 16 points and nine rebounds from sophomore forward
Kraig Gilbert. Young matched Djigo's 17 points as he went 9-for-9 at the foul line. Junior forward
Anfernee Hanna threw in 13 points. And sophomore guard
Cole Lambert provided a lift off the bench with six points, two rebounds and two assists in 23 minutes of action. The Mountain Lions were outshot in the game, 50.0 percent to 40.3 percent, but were +7 in second-chance points (17-10) and +4 in points off turnovers (14-10). Another big reason for CU's win over the Golden Eagles was the 23-for-28 showing at the free-throw line compared to Charleston going 14-of-19 from the charity stripe.
LOCK 'EM DOWN
Wednesday will be a matchup of two of the best defensive teams in the MEC. Charleston is second in the MEC in scoring defense (74.7) while Concord ranks third (78.3). The Golden Eagles back up the scoring defense with the second-best field-goal defense in the league (41.1). Concord sits fifth in the MEC in field-goal defense (45.0). The Mountain Lions are 6-1 this season when they hold the opposition under 45 percent shooting. CU's three-point defense will also be put to the test at Charleston as the Golden Eagles lead the MEC in three-point percentage (41.0) and are second in made three-pointers per game (10.9). Earlier this season, Concord held UC to 6-for-16 (37.5 percent) from three-point distance. CU is 6-3 this winter when holding the opponent to less than 10 made three-pointers.
KNOCK 'EM DOWN
If Wednesday's contest comes down to free-throw stripe—like the first meeting—Concord has a distinct advantage over Charleston. Concord is the best free-throw shooting team in the MEC (75.8 percent) which is also top 40 in Division II while UC is 11th in the league (70.0). The Golden Eagles are also 10
th in the conference in both made free throws (180) and attempts (257). Individually for CU, Hanna (sixth/81.6 percent) and sophomore guard
Josiah Rickards (eighth/80.0) rank in the top 10 in the MEC for foul shooting among qualified players. The 23 made free throws by the Mountain Lions in the first meeting this season are the third most in a game for CU this year. In closing out the Golden Eagles in December, Concord was 8-for-10 at the charity stripe in the final 55 seconds, including Young making the final six.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
25- Bench points scored by Concord in the first meeting this season, outscoring UC's reserves by 13 points in the win.
58- Points scored by CU All-American
Kollin Tolbert the last time Concord and Charleston played at the Wehrle Innovation Center—Charleston won 122-119 in triple overtime last November.
89- Free-throw percentage for Young in the final three minutes of games this season (16-for-18).
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN EAGLES
Charleston starts the week as the MEC's hottest team with wins in five straight games—the first four victories were all by at least 20 points. The Golden Eagles edged Davis & Elkins over the weekend, 90-86, behind 22 points from Thomas Hailey who is also UC's leading scorer on the season (12.9 points). Matthew Shelton (12.6 points) and Braden Chapman (11.5 points) both average double figures as well. Chapman pumped in 27 points against Concord in the first game this season. Hailey added 17 points before fouling out in 27 minutes of action. Hamilton Campbell is tied for the MEC lead in assists (4.7 per game) while adding 9.5 points and 3.5 rebounds per contest.
