ROANOKE, W.Va. – The Concord University men's golf team finished 12
th at the Stonewall Collegiate at Stonewall Resort's Palmer Course Monday and Tuesday.
In three rounds, Concord notched scores of 316, 320 and 318 for a total of 954.
The top finisher for CU was freshman
Jeremy Nguyen who sported a top-20 finish by tying for 20
th at 229. Nguyen had rounds of 79, 73 and 77 with his cleanest stretch of golf coming on the second round's front nine. Nguyen had back-to-back birdies on the par-5, fourth and the par-4, fifth. He added a birdie to start the back nine with a two on the par-3, 159-yard 10
th. In the first round, Nguyen had three birdies in Monday's first round, including consecutive red numbers on the par 4s eighth and ninth holes.
Freshman
Jackson Williams tied for 37
th, out of 87 participants. Williams fired scores of 79, 78 and 77. He had a total of six birdies with three coming in the first round. Williams' under par scores came on the second, 11
th and 18
th holes.
Freshman
Henry Lewis shot rounds of 76, 84 and 81 for a total of 241. Lewis notched Concord's first eagle of the season with a three on the par-5, 555-yard seventh hole during the third round Tuesday. Like Williams, Lewis had six birdies in the tournament as well. He carded back-to-back red numbers on the ninth and 10
th holes in the first round.
Sophomore
Jonah Willson finished the tournament at 250.
West Virginia Tech's Sean Cooper was two strokes better (217) than three other golfers for the individual medalist. Glenville State rallied for the team win with a tournament-low score of 290 during the final round to edge Fairmont State by eight strokes (884-892).
