Concord Voted Seventh in MEC Preseason Poll

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. - The Concord University men's golf team has been predicted to finish seventh in the Mountain East Conference preseason Coaches' Poll that was released Friday afternoon.

2024-25 REVIEW

The Mountain Lions ended the 2024-25 campaign trending in the right direction. Two of their best finishes came in the last two competitions, notching a sixth place finish at the MEC Spring Invite and coming in eighth at the West Liberty Invitational. Earlier in the fall, they placed eighth at the MEC Championship in Daniels, W.Va.

2025-26 SCHEDULE

CU opens the 2025-26 season September 4-5 with the Wheeling Invite, hosted at Belmont Hills Country Club in St. Clairsville, Ohio. After that, Concord heads back to the Mountain State for the Charleston Fall Invite hosted at Berry Hills Country Club on September 8-9. On September 15-16, the Mountain Lions participate in the Stonewall Collegiate Tournament at Stonewall Resort in Roanoke, W.Va. The following week on September 22-23, they'll play in the Hannastown Invite at Hannastown Country Club in Greensburg, Pa. The Mountain East Conference Championship is Concord's next competition. Hosted at The Resort at Glade Springs in Daniels, W.Va, it will take place October 6-8. The last competition of the fall is the Bluefield State Invite at Fincastle Country Club on October 20-21.

The 2025-26 spring schedule is yet to be released.

THE RETURNERS

Concord sees a lot of roster turnover heading into the 2025-26 season, but return three members from last year's team. Sophomore Jonah Willson returns after posting the second best average score (80.6) on last year's squad as a freshman. His best mark was a 74, which he notched three separate times last season. David Gibb comes back to the Mountain Lions as the only senior. His best round last season was a 77 which he found at the West Liberty Invite. Sophomore Coltan Farrell also returns after a solid freshman season. He averaged a score of 86.6 per round and shot a career best 79 at the Bluefield State Invite.

THE NEWCOMERS 

The Concord men's golf team welcomes in a slew of freshmen ahead of the 2025-26 season with head coach Carson Proffitt adding new first-year players. Starting off with the five freshmen from the state of West Virginia, Finn Bailey (Princeton, W.Va./Princeton), Luke Fraley (Gap Mills, W.Va./James Monroe), Fraley's high school teammate, Owen Jackson (Peterstown, W.Va./James Monroe), Luke Taylor (Vienna, W.Va./Williamstown)--Jackson and Taylor both previously played men's soccer CU–and Jackson Williams (Crow, W.Va./Shady Spring). The four other freshmen include, Shih-Chieh Cheng (Tainan City, Taiwan/CTBC International Academy), Henry Lewis (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett), Jackson Mendler (New Orleans, La./Isadore Newman), and Jeremy Nguyen (Richmond, Texas/George Ranch).
