SET PIECE STRATEGY
Both of Concord's goals this season have come from set pieces. In the opener versus Kutztown, the Mountain Lions capitalized from a penalty kick by sophomore forward
Ailsa Swinburne. Swinburne was taken down in the box, and then stepped up to convert her first career penalty. CU had just one penalty kick last year, taken by sophomore midfielder
Marika Svensson at Glenville State. Saturday's goal against Gannon was from a corner kick taken by freshman midfielder
Molly Watters. The corner found sophomore midfielder
Tiana Campbell for a header.
WINNING STREAK ON THE LINE
CU has won six straight games versus West Virginia Wesleyan and has earned at least one point in nine consecutive games versus the Bobcats. In the six wins, the Mountain Lions have outscored WVWC 28-4. Campbell has three goals in two career games against Wesleyan, including a brace on the road to open conference play last season. Swinburne had the opening goal of a 6-1 win last season at home, by scoring in the 12
th minute. Other active Mountain Lions to score against the Bobcats are junior defender
Caitlyn Martin and senior midfielder
Jessica Neville.
STAY PERFECT
Concord has won all 14 all-time meetings against Glenville State, dating back to the 2018 season—GSU's first season of varsity women's soccer. The Mountain Lions have managed 13 clean sheets in those games. Svensson had a hat trick at Glenville State last season, and added a brace at home in 2024 versus the Pioneers. Sophomore forward
Taryn Kelly recorded her first career goal at GSU last season, and notched an assist in a 5-0 win to close the regular season. Swinburne tossed in her first career brace in the home matchup with GSU.
TOUGH CODE TO CRACK
Traditionally one of the best offenses in the MEC, the Mountain Lions will have their work cut out for them as West Virginia Wesleyan has yet to yield a goal in two games this year. The Bobcats have only surrendered seven shots on goal. In two meetings last fall, Concord registered 37 total shots versus Wesleyan with 20 of those being on target. WVWC is the only team in the team in the MEC to have not allowed a goal this year.
FIND YOUR RHYTHM
Both Concord and Glenville State enter the weekend winless on the year. The offenses have scored for both teams. CU has allowed nine goals—albeit to teams that are now ranked in the Division II Top 25 National Poll, Kutztown and Gannon. Glenville State has surrendered six goals in losses to Mars Hill and Ursuline. Like Concord, Glenville State opens up MEC play this weekend seeking its first win of the season when it travels to West Virginia State.
SCOUTING THE WEST VIRGINIA WESLEYAN BOBCATS
WVWC got an 88
th-minute goal from Sydne Alexander versus California (Pa.) to avoid a second-straight scoreless draw. The Bobcats played to a goalless tie against Pitt-Johnstown to open the season. Mia Rodriguez assisted on the Alexander goal. Maite Coutinho has stopped six shots to start the year, collecting two shutouts along the way.
SCOUTING THE GLENVILLE STATE PIONEERS
Goals by Solares Solano and Natalia Bernal were not enough in GSU's 5-2 loss at Ursuline Wednesday. Glenville State began the season with a 1-0 loss at Mars Hill. Lucia Lopez and Anjolie Colon have split the 180 minutes in goal with Lopez seeing 150 minutes between the posts. Solano is responsible for nine of GSU's 27 shots on the season.
