Softball Trio Named CSC Academic All-District

ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University softball team has placed three student-athletes on the College Sports Communicators' (CSC) Academic All-District Team, the organization released Tuesday afternoon.

Junior pitcher/infielder Madison Hollis, junior infielder Lacie Lewis and senior infielder Courtney Raines represented the Mountain Lions on the team. Hollis and Raines were repeat performers on CSC Academic All-District while Lewis qualified for the team for the first time in her career.

Hollis, a native of McMinnville, Tennessee, sports a 3.84 GPA in business administration. Even though Hollis missed the first nine game of the season, she batted .319 with 10 doubles, a home run and 27 RBI. Meanwhile in the circle, Hollis led the Mountain Lions with eight wins in the circle as she sported a 3.39 ERA in 115 innings. She registered eight complete games in 15 starts with 23 appearances overall. Over the course of her career, Hollis has been a three-time member of the Concord Dean's List while being also being selected to the CU Athletic Director's Honor Roll as well as the Mountain East Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll.

Raines makes her second straight appearance on the CSC Academic All-District Team, but her first as a graduate student. Raines went through her first year of graduate school with a 4.0 GPA in health promotion. That was after Raines graduated in three years with a 3.56 GPA in health science. On the field, Raines hit. 278 with two doubles, five home runs and 29 RBI. She was on the All-MEC Second Team for the second consecutive season. The Salem, Virginia native wrapped up her career by ranking top 10 in program history in hits (10th/166), RBI (sixth/117) and games played (tied for third/210).

Lewis, a native of Kearneysville, West Virginia, was the leader for CU in several offensive categories: home runs (11), RBI (43), hits (58) and slugging percentage (.611). She ranked second on the team in average (.347) and doubles (11). Lewis was top three in the MEC in home runs and RBI as she made the All-MEC Second Team. CU's everyday shortstop is a sociology major with a 3.54 GPA. For her academic excellence, Lewis has been on the Concord Dean's List four times and is a two-time honoree by the MEC on the Commissioner's Honor Roll.

Eligible nominees must compete in 90 percent of the institution's games played or must start in at least 66 percent of the institution's games. For pitchers, a student-athlete must have made at least 17 appearances or pitched 35 innings.

And in the classroom, eligible student-athletes must have a 3.50 cumulative GPA and be of sophomore standing.

Based on their credentials, Hollis and Lewis advance to the CSC Academic All-American ballot. The Academic All-American Teams will be announced in mid-June.
