Concord's Season Ends in Elimination Loss to Point Park at MEC Tournament

SALEM, Va. – The Concord University softball team was clipped by Point Park 4-1 in an elimination game at the Mountain East Conference Tournament Thursday afternoon at the Moyer Sports Complex.

PPU (17-29) scored the game's final three runs after the Mountain Lions (23-28) tied the game in the top of the third. The tie was short lived as the Pioneers scored twice in the bottom of the inning.

CU was able to level the game on an RBI single by sophomore infielder Kendall Morgan. The first two batters of the inning, freshman pitcher/utility Reghan Hintz and junior catcher/outfielder Morgan Gleason, reached on an error and base hit, respectively. The pair moved up on a deep flyout by junior infielder Lacie Lewis, setting the stage for Morgan to lift a single into shallow right field.

With the Mountain Lions down 3-1, Concord pushed the tying run into scoring position after Hintz and junior outfielder Alina Giles combined for back-to-back hits with two outs in the fourth. After Hintz stole second, Point Park was able to escape with the lead still intact.

Morgan and junior pitcher/infielder Madison Hollis connected on consecutive hits in the fifth with one out, however, it was the last time CU would threaten in the contest as the Pioneers added a run in the sixth.

The Maroon and Gray outhit PPU, 7-5, with Hintz going for 2-for-3 and Morgan adding a 2-for-4 afternoon to go with her RBI.
Freshman pitcher/utility Mahailey Nicholson (7-8) tossed two innings as she gave up three runs. Hintz pitched the final four innings as she gave up a run on three hits.

Thursday was the final collegiate games for senior infielders Kassidy Garvey and Courtney Raines. Raines finished her career top 10 in program history in hits, RBI and games played.
