ATHENS, W.Va. – Concord University head softball coach
Alyssa Morris has announced her resignation from the program.
Morris is pursuing opportunities outside of the coaching profession.
The former standout catcher and 2022 Concord Hall of Fame inductee returned to her alma mater in the fall of 2021, guiding the program for four years. Morris led the Mountain Lions to 87 wins from 2022-25, qualifying for the Mountain East Conference Tournament each of the last two seasons.
"Coaching softball at Concord has been one of the most rewarding chapters of my life," Morris said. "Being able to give back to a program and university that has given me so much feels full circle. I want to thank Kevin Garrett and Dr. Kendra Boggess for giving me that opportunity.
"I also want to thank the athletic department and university as a whole who has been like family since the day I stepped back onto campus," she said.
Over her four years coaching the Concord softball program, six Mountain Lions were named All-MEC with four making all-region: Laura Thompson (2022), Sarah Thompson (2022),
Courtney Raines (2024) and
Kylee Stacy (2024). Raines and Stacy played their entire careers for Morris. Raines (2022-25) finished her time in the Maroon and Gray top 10 in program history in hits and RBI. Stacy (2022-24) is top 10 in program history in hits, and became CU's all-time leader in stolen bases (59).
Morris finished her career as one of the top players in program history. From 2013-16, she smacked 46 home runs and drove in 169 runs—both tops all-time at Concord. Her 226 hits are fourth most in program history. She was the program's first-ever All-American in 2015.
"Leaving this role isn't easy, but knowing the program is in the hands of such strong, kind and talented young women gives me peace," Morris said. "Thank you for trusting me, pushing me and growing alongside me. I am excited to see how this program continues to grow."
Concord will begin a national search for Morris' replacement.
