BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Sophomore pitcher
Jake Robinson of the Concord University baseball team has been selected as the Mountain East Conference Pitcher of the Week, presented by The Health Plan, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Robinson, a native of Raleigh, North Carolina, is named the MEC Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season. On Saturday, Robinson twirled five shutout innings against Davis & Elkins at home as he improved to 6-2 on the mound this spring. Robinson needed just 72 pitches to record 15 outs on the day.
Robinson struck out six, walked one and gave up two hits in helping the Mountain Lions to their fourth shutout of the season—he has been the winning pitcher in three of CU's shutouts this season.
After loading the bases in the first inning, Robinson retired 14 straight batters to end his day in Concord's 13-0 blanking of the Senators.
Through Sunday's games in the MEC, Robinson is the only pitcher in the conference with six or more wins.
The Mountain Lions are back on the diamond 1:00 p.m. Saturday at West Virginia Wesleyan for a league doubleheader.
