MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The Concord University women's track & field team scored 12 points, and is in fourth place, after the first day of the Mountain East Conference Outdoor Championships at Mylan Park.
Concord scored 11 of its 12 points in the javelin throw. Freshman
Cassidy Hammonds had a personal-record throw of 33.73 meters to finish second. Hammonds will earn All-MEC Second Team in the event—CU's first all-conference javelin thrower since 2007. Her toss was nearly a full meter better than her previous career best. Junior
Lilly Jackson picked up three points for Concord by tossing 31.49 meters and finishing sixth.

Katy Walkup just missed a season-best time in the 10,000-meter run as she scored a point for CU, clocking 39:54.04 and placing eighth. Senior
Madison Cornett finished 10
th in a time of 41:04.57. Sophomore
Sara Turner was 11
th (41:27.32). Fellow sophomores
Abbey Londeree (15
th/44:13.05) and
Piper Doughton (16
th/44:55.85) rounded out CU's five-athlete field in the 10,000-meters.
Sophomore
Meagan Poticher finished 11
th in the javelin (27.46 meters) while freshman
Gracie McAlister was 14
th (21.86 meters).
In addition to her second-place finish in the javelin, Hammonds is third through four of the seven events in the heptathlon. She has tallied 2,554 points and is just over 150 points out of first place. Hammonds was the runner-up in the 110-meter hurdles (15.42 seconds/787 points) and the 200-meter dash (25.64 seconds/829 points).
Junior
Kalyn Williams was 16
th in the 200-meter dash trials as she clocked 26.31 seconds.
The Mountain Lions resume action at the MEC Championships 12:00 p.m. Monday for field events, and 6:00 p.m. for running events.
