 ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University women's track & field team eased its way to a team victory Friday night in the Concord Invite at Callaghan Stadium.
Concord rolled up 221 points as it was nearly 80 points better than Glenville State (142 points).
On Thursday night at PikeView High School, the Mountain Lions had a 1-2-3 finish in the javelin. Sophomore
Meagan Poticher had a personal-record throw of 31.81 meters to win the event. Freshmen
Cassidy Hammonds (29.68 meters) and
Gracie McAlister (25.91 meters) were second and third, respectively.
Hammonds claimed individual victories in the long jump and 110-meter hurdles. She marked 5.49 meters in the long jump with junior
Lilly Jackson jumping a career-best 5.20 meters to finish second. Meanwhile, Hammonds sprinted 16.20 seconds in the hurdles to tally a win.
Junior
Kalyn Williams swept the sprint events. She motored to a time of 12.95 seconds in the 100-meter dash for the victory. And her time of 26.56 seconds in the 200-meter dash was good enough for the win.
Hammonds and Williams were in the middle of the victorious 4x100-meter relay team. Graduate student
Trina Lewis and freshman
Kendall Lilly joined the relay as the quartet ran a season-best time of 50.04 seconds.
The final individual win for CU came in the 5,000-meter run. Senior
Madison Cornett ran a season-best time of 18:52.03 for the victory. Junior
Katy Walkup placed third in 19:41.62.
Staying with the distance events, sophomore
Piper Doughton clocked 46:32.92 in the 10,000-meter run as the runner-up.
Senior
Alexis Anzevino cleared 1.70 meters in the pole vault to claim a runner-up showing.
And in the throwing events, graduate student
Abbey Wallace (10.23 meters) was third in the shot put while freshman Amaya Smith (28.53 meters) was third in the hammer throw.
Concord returns to action in a week, Friday, April 18 at West Virginia Wesleyan's Jasmine Claggett Invite.
