LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Concord University women's track & field team competed Friday and Saturday at the University of Lynchburg's Dr. Jack Toms Invite.
Graduate student
Emily Wallace picked up an individual victory for CU in the 1,500-meter run as she came through in 4:46.60. Along with Wallace, the Mountain Lions had five athletes in the top 20 of the 1,500-meters. Senior
Madison Cornett clocked a career-best time of 5:09.02 to finish eighth. Junior
Katy Walkup stopped the timer at 5:17.58, a personal record, as she placed 15
th. Sophomore
Sara Turner also had a career-best time, 5:23.68, as she finished 17
th. Freshman
Kate Kelly was 18
th as she placed in 5:24.37.
Junior
Lilly Jackson assumed the lead in the Mountain East Conference in the javelin with a throw of 35.07 meters. She finished eighth. Freshman
Gracie McAlister marked 27.75 meters as she placed 15
th. And sophomore
Meagan Poticher was 19th with a toss of 25.36 meters.
Wallace finished third in the 800-meter run as she clocked 2:19.86.
Poticher had two other top-20 finishes in the throwing events. She was 13
th in the discus at 30.60 meters. And her throw of 9.57 meters in the shot put was 19
th. Graduate student
Abbey Wallace was 14
th in the shot put with a mark of 10.46 meters.
Along with her performance in the javelin, Jackson leaped 4.98 meters in the long jump to finish 12
th.
Rounding out the top performances was sophomore
Charlotte McGinnis in the 3,000-meter steeplechase where she placed 11
th in a time of 13:28.68.
The Mountain Lions are in action at Charleston's Golden Eagle Invite and High Pont's VertKlasse Meeting next weekend.
