A TRIP AROUND THE BASES
In Concord's 11-8 win over Emory & Henry Tuesday, a trio of players helped set the single-game program record for triples in a game. Junior outfielders
Korbin Bostic and
Dawson Gragg as well as senior outfielder
Demetri Jamison each tripled in the win. Gragg and Jamison combined for five RBI in their triples, including Jamison's three-run triple to break open a 5-5 tie in the eighth. CU has four total triples this season after senior outfielder
D.J. Christian Jr. tallied Concord's first triple of the season Monday against nationally-ranked Ashland. Last season, the Mountain Lions only tallied six triples in 46 games with Gragg being the only player with multiple triples. Concord leads the MEC in triples this season with the rest of the league only combining for eight triples.
IN THE FIELD
Through eight games, the Concord defense has been solid with the Mountain Lions fielding .967—just nine errors in 272 chances. The Maroon and Gray ranks just outside the top 50 in Division II in fielding percentage. Specifically, the Mountain Lions have been stellar at turning double plays with 10 double plays in eight games. The middle infield of senior infielder
Brendan Brady and senior utility
MJ Hunter have combined to notch seven double plays with junior infielder
Matthew DiSanti on the back end of the double plays. Hunter recorded an unassisted double play in Tuesday's victory. Brady and Hunter have yet to commit an error this season—37 chances each. And in the running game, junior catcher
Austin Hear has thrown out both base attempted base stealers in his role off the bench.
LONG-TIME COMING
Saturday's doubleheader will be CU's first matchup with Shepherd since the 2019 Mountain East Conference Tournament—the Rams' last year in the conference before bolting for the PSAC. During Shepherd's time in the MEC, both the Mountain Lions and Rams were traditional contenders at the top of the MEC. However, Concord is seeking its first win over Shepherd since April 2016, a 10-game losing streak. The Mountain Lions' 5-3 loss in the 2019 MEC Tournament to Shepherd featured current Colorado Rockies center fielder Brenton Doyle in the lineup for SU. CU's 3-1 win in 2016 came on the road while Concord's last home win over Shepherd was in March 2013.

SCOUTING THE RAMS
All three wins for Shepherd came last weekend over Salem as SU comes to Anderson Field with a three-game winning streak. Daniel Quintana is the reigning PSAC East Pitcher of the Week after tossing seven shutout innings at Salem. The James Madison transfer has not allowed a run over his last 12 innings. Nik Rubendell (.333) and Bodie Pullen (.303) are the only qualified hitters over .300 on the season. Six of the 11 hits for Rubendell have gone for doubles. Pullen has stolen four bases. SU is under the direction of first-year head coach Andrew Kowalo.
