HEATING UP
With the 96-85 win at West Virginia Wesleyan Wednesday, CU ties its largest win streak of the season at four games. Both teams wrestled for the lead in the opening minutes, but the Mountain Lions took the lead, 5-3, at the 8:54 mark of the first quarter and controlled the margin for the remainder of the game. The Maroon and Gray extended their edge to 15 at the halftime break and maintained the double-digit advantage throughout the second half, leading by as many as 17. A fifth-consecutive win would mark CU's longest winning streak since the end of the 2021-22 season when the Mountain Lions rattled off five straight.
Â
BEYOND THE ARC
Sophomore guard
Madison Young had a career night against the Bobcats, knocking down six of CU's season-best 13 three-pointers and netting a career-high 23 points to lead all scorers. Her six three-pointers ties five other Mountain Lions for the most in a single-game in program history. Young's previous career-high was 14 against Point Park where she tied junior forward
Imani Hickman for the previous season-best three-point mark of four. In the win over WVWC, Hickman made all three-point shots she attempted. Sophomore guard
Alexis Frazee connected on two triples, and senior guard
Skylar Davidson and junior guard
Kennedy Scales each knocked down one three-point bucket to round out the long-range attack.
Â
SEEING IT FALL
During its four-game win streak, Concord is averaging 84.4 points per game, raising its season scoring average from 72.9 to 74.3. Additionally, Concord has shot above 40 percent in four-straight outings and posted a season-best 54.2 percent from three-point range in the win over WVWC. The Mountain Lions have also been converting from the free throw line as of recent, converting 82.6 percent (100-for-121) of its attempts from the charity stripe in its last seven games.
Â
BACK-TO-BACK
Davidson not only contributed in the scoring column with her 14 points against West Virginia Wesleyan, as she dished out the most assists in a game since 2016 with 12 for back-to-back double-doubles. With those 12 assists, she cements herself in the Concord record book, tying Sissy Wagner (2012-14) for the seventh-most career assists (253). She is 23 assists shy of reaching the top 10 in school history for single-season assists of 143. Currently, Davidson is tied for 13
th in Division 11 in assists per game (5.5) and leads the MEC. The Mullens, W.Va. native is also averaging 11.5 points per game and leads the league taking away 3.4 steals per game.
