SALEM, Va. – The Concord University women's track & field team returned to Roanoke College for the second time this indoor season to compete in the Bast-Cregger Invite Friday and Saturday.
The top performance for the Mountain Lions was a record-setting one as freshman
Cassidy Hammonds broke the program record in the pentathlon, scoring 2,618 points and finishing 14
th. The school record was set last season by
Nadiyah Abdussalaam at 2,512 points. Hammonds is now seventh in the event in the Mountain East Conference.
Hammonds scored 771 of her points in the 60-meter hurdles as she clocked 9.69 seconds. She added 578 points in the long jump with a mark 5.07 meters.
In the individual events, Hammonds was 12
th in the triple jump as she leaped 10.15 meters.
Concord secured two top-six finishes in the 3,000-meter run.
Junior
Katy Walkup came through in 10:54.49 seconds which was a personal-record time and good enough for fourth place. Senior
Madison Cornett was two spots back as she clocked 10:57.66.
Freshman
Cierra Parker cleared 1.49 meters in the high jump to place sixth.
Elsewhere in the distance medley relay, senior
Alexis Anzevino, sophomore
Piper Doughton, sophomore
Abbey Londeree and sophomore
Charlotte McGinnis combine to run 14:35.19 to finish ninth.
In the 400-meter dash, sophomore
Izzy Williams ran 1:02.73 to finish seventh while freshman
Jenna Webb was 19
th in a showing of 1:06.98.
Graduate student
Abbey Wallace and sophomore
Meagan Poticher had the exact same throw in the shot put as they both tossed 10.49 meters to finish 14
th and 15
th. It was a season-best throw for Wallace, and a career-record toss for Poticher.
The duo is now tied for 16
th in the conference in the event which is the cutoff qualification for the MEC Indoor Championships later this month.
CU is back in action when it travels to the Liberty Open Friday in Lynchburg, Virginia.
