Gilbert Tabbed MEC Player of the Week

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Sophomore forward Kraig Gilbert of the Concord University men's basketball team has been announced as the Mountain East Conference Player of the Week, the league office released Monday afternoon.

The MEC Players of the Week are presented by The Health Plan. This week, Gilbert was the Co-MEC Player of the Week with Wheeling's Caleb Murray.

Gilbert, a Grove City, Ohio native, earns his second MEC Player of the Week this season after posting 19 points, six rebounds, two assists and two blocks per game in two contests. Additionally, he shot 62.5 percent from the floor and 53.8 percent from three-point range.

To open the week, Gilbert scored 22 points on 9-for-11 shooting as he knocked down 4-of-6 three-point attempts at West Virginia State. The Mountain Lions cruised to a 97-76 victory. He returned to the court Saturday afternoon to help Concord get past Charleston, 82-78.

In the win over the Golden Eagles, Gilbert netted 16 points to go with nine rebounds. After starting 0-for-4 from three-point range, he knocked in all three attempts in the second half to key the four-point win.

Gilbert had a pair of blocks in each game.

The Concord four man is fourth in the conference in scoring (18.3), first in three-point shooting (52.6) second in blocks (1.9) and fifth in field-goal percentage (58.8).

The Mountain Lions return to the Carter Center to face Frostburg State 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
