HALFTIME ADJUSTMENTS
CU exploded in the second half as it cruised past Frostburg State 97-83 last Wednesday inside the Carter Center. The Mountain Lions trailed 43-41 at halftime, but outscored FSU 56-40 after halftime. It marked the third straight game that the Maroon and Gray scored 50 or more points in the second half. And for the season, Concord is averaging 42.5 points per game in the second half  as opposed to 35.6 points per game in the first half. The Mountain Lions have shot 50 percent or better in four of the last five second halves, dating back to its win over California (Pa.) November 22. The second-half success this season is a carry over from 2024-25 when CU scored 45.7 points on average in the second half of games versus 39.4 in the first half.

DOWNTOWN DISPLAY
The Mountain Lions buried a season-high 10 three-pointers versus Frostburg State with seven coming in the second half. Concord also shot an efficient 41.7 percent (10-for-24) from three-point distance last Wednesday. Seven different players accounted for the 10 three-point makes. Freshman guard Micah Young connected on a career-high three triples. Sophomore forward Kraig Gilbert went 2-for-5 from beyond the arc as he continues to lead the MEC in three-point percentage (51.2). And Gilbert continued a streak of 10 consecutive games, dating back to last season, with at least two made three-pointers. Sophomore guard Brendan Hoffman made his only three-point attempt in his first action of the year, and sophomore guard Same Boothe hit his first triple of the year in the closing moments of the contest. CU has now won 10 straight games when making 10 or more three-pointers.

HELPING HANDS
In the victory over Frostburg State, Concord passed out a season-best 22 assists on 38 made field goals. Nine different players had at least one assist in the contest. Junior guard Khamani Wertz and Gilbert both had five assists with Gilbert registering a new career high in assists. Sophomore guard Josiah Rickards notched three assists. It marked the second straight meeting between Concord and Frostburg State where CU has tallied 22 assists. It was also tied for the fourth-most assists in a game in the MEC this winter. The 22 assists aided in the Mountain Lions shooting a season-best 54.3 percent from the field. Junior forward Anfernee Hanna, sophomore guard Cole Lambert and Young all had two assists in the game. During its three-game winning streak, Concord is averaging 17 assists per game which is nearly five better than its season average (12.4).

SECOND CHANCES
Concord heads into Wednesday night leading the MEC in offensive rebounds per game (14.4) which is also tied for 31st in Division II. CU grabbed 16 offensive rebounds in the win over Frostburg State that led to a season-high 25 second-chance points. It marked the fourth time in eight games that the Mountain Lions have grabbed 16 or more offensive boards. Three of the five rebounds for junior forward Eldon Terry were on the offensive end. Junior forward Boubacar Djigo and Lambert each added three offensive rebounds. The opponent Wednesday night, Point Park, allows 13 offensive rebounds per game and only grabs 18.9 defensive rebounds per contest. The Mountain Lions have gone four straight games with at least 14 second-chance points. Djigo leads the MEC in offensive rebounds per game (4.3).

LOCK 'EM DOWN
While the Mountain Lions have been blistering hot after halftime in recent games, Concord has been stingy on the defensive end as it only gives up 36.5 points per game in the second half this season. CU's overall scoring defense is ranked second in the MEC (75.4). Concord also ranks third in the conference in field-goal defense (44.1). The Maroon and Gray is coming off a game where they held Frostburg State to 83 points and 44 percent from the floor—13 points fewer than the Bobcats average and five percent less then they shoot for the season. Point Park is only averaging 74.1 points per game this winter while shooting 43.3 percent from the field, both 10th in the MEC. CU is 104-26 under head coach Todd May when holding teams to less than 45 percent shooting.

ROAD WARRIORS
A tough finish to the first semester of the season awaits Concord with road games that require a travel time of more than three hours for each. CU's longest trip of the season is Wednesday night at PPU. The Mountain Lions were 7-3 last season in conference road games, including wins over Point Park and Fairmont State. In Concord's 69-61 win at PPU last season, the Mountain Lions held the Pioneers to 35.9 percent shooting in their home gym February 8. Gilbert netted eight points to go with three rebounds. The Mountain Lions picked up a season sweep of Point Park last season after winning 88-69 at home in December. Defensively, CU held the Pioneers to 31 percent shooting in the first meeting. Rickards made three three-pointers in the first matchup last year.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
22- Concord outrebounded Frostburg State by 22 (48-26) to ascend second in the MEC rebounding margin (+5.1).

56- Points in the second half by CU versus Frostburg State were the most in a half since a 104-95 win over Bluefield State last season.

1,200- Last year's win at Point Park was the 1,200th win in program history for the Mountain Lions.

SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
Point Park will have a quick turnaround as it plays a non-conference game versus Cedarville Tuesday afternoon at home. Under first-year head coach Ryan Grandits, the only two returners for the Pioneers are Aidan Anderson and Rob Keys. Anderson is top 10 in the MEC in scoring (ninth/16.4). Keys scored 18 points in 23 minutes off the bench for Point Park in Athens last season. PPU's leading scorer from last season, Kaden Warner, is netting 11.0 points per game this year. Division I transfer Grant Welch, from UIC, is tied with CU's Gilbert for fifth in made three-pointers in the MEC (22). Welch is scoring 13.4 points per game.
