ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University Athletic Department celebrated the completion and opening of the Woodlyn & Earl Kendrick Athletic Practice Facility Friday afternoon in a ceremony on campus inside the Carter Center.
The athletic practice facility houses a full turf field, a small track around the turf area, a full weight room area, two golf simulators and a training and recovery area for athletes returning from injury. Within the turf area are batting cages that will allow for Concord baseball and softball to practice regardless of weather conditions. The turf field will pay dividends to the Concord football and men's and women's soccer programs. And the golf simulators will enhance the Concord men's and women's golf programs.
The project was made possible by the Kendrick Family, the Shott Foundation, the Preservati Trust, Thomas Whitehead and the Holdren Estate. Helping construct and renovate the former swimming pool space were Main Street Builders, the Concord Maintenance Department, E.T. Boggess Architects, Tarkett Sports, Indoor Golf Shop, BSN Sports, Lifeward and Grand Slam Safety.
Concord President Emeritus Dr. Kendra Boggess oversaw the project with assistance from retired Concord Athletic Director Kevin Garrett. Concord's 13
th President Dr. Bethany Meighen also helped get the project to the finish line along with Concord Co-Athletic Directors
Luke Duffy and
Tesla Southcott.
The Woodlyn & Earl Kendrick Athletic Practice Facility is the first of its kind in the Mountain East Conference, and the Concord Athletic Department is excited to see the enhancement in competition it brings to current and future Concord student-athletes.
