SPLENDID SOPHOMORES
Sophomore forward Kraig Gilbert and sophomore guard Josiah Rickards led the way offensively for CU over the weekend at the Hilton Garden Inn Classic hosted by Indiana (Pa.). Rickards netted an average of 18.5 points per game in the two contests as his scoring average is tied for eighth in the MEC early in the season. Over the last five games—dating back to last year—Rickards is averaging 17.4 points per game. Meanwhile, Gilbert bounced back from a nine-point outing against Indiana (Pa.) to toss in a career-best 22 points versus Pitt-Johnstown. He added his fourth career double-double with 11 rebounds. The Grove City, Ohio native went 9-of-12 from the field versus UPJ. Gilbert matched his career high in three-pointers made with three versus Pitt-Johnstown, and finished the weekend 5-for-8 from three-point range.

GET ALL THE REBOUNDS
Gilbert and junior forward Boubacar Djigo both put in work on the glass for the Mountain Lions. Gilbert grabbed 13 rebounds in the first two games of the season as his 6.5 rebounds per game are tied for ninth in the MEC. Djigo had a big weekend on the boards as he pulled down 26 rebounds, including his second career game with 15 or more boards as he plucked down 15 rebounds against IUP. The Cleveland, Ohio native is second in the conference in rebounding  (13 per game), and leads the MEC in offensive rebounds through two games with 12. Djigo registered his third career double-double Friday night when he went for 11 points and 15 rebounds. However, it was his second double-double in the last six games with the other coming last season when Djigo had 17 points and a single-game program record 22 rebounds at West Virginia State.

JUMPING ON SCENE
Junior forward Anfernee Hanna and freshman guard Micah Young made strong impressions in their first games in the Maroon and Gray. Hanna went for 17 points and six rebounds in 31 minutes versus Indiana (Pa.). Hanna was an efficient 6-for-9 shooting versus the Crimson Hawks. Hanna is the first Concord player with 30 or more points in their first two games at CU since Daniel Rahama (36) and Matt Weir (33) both went over 30 points in their first to contests of the 2021-22 season. Meanwhile, Young made an impact off the bench in the Pitt-Johnstown contest, netting all 10 bench points for CU in the game. The Westerville, Ohio native is the first Mountain Lion freshman to score double digits on opening week of the season since November 2019 when Ethan Heller poured in 29 points versus Pitt-Johnstown and 18 versus IUP.

LET'S MEET AGAIN
Wednesday night will be the 109th time that Concord and Bluefield State meet on the hardwood in men's basketball. CU owns a 70-38 advantage in the all-time series. The Mountain Lions have won 12 of the last 13 meetings against Bluefield State. The only loss for the Maroon and Gray in that span was last year at Bluefield State, 103-88. However, Concord rebounded with a 104-95 win at home in February against its Mercer County rival. Rickards scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds in CU's win over the Big Blues. Concord canned 10 three-pointers in last year's victory and closed out the win by going 20-for-26 at the foul line inside the Carter Center. Head coach Todd May is 14-2 in his career against Bluefield Stat with the average margin of victory being 10.9 points per game.

180 DEGREE DIFFERENCE
With the departure of former Bluefield State head coach Devin Hoehn to Fayetteville State, the Big Blues have gone away from the suffocating full-court press under Coach Hoehn to a more methodical, half-court approach under coach Luke D'Alessio who came from Fayetteville State, effectively completing a head coaching trade between the two schools. In two games last year, the Mountain Lions committed 19 turnovers in each game versus the Big Blues, however, this season BSU has only forced 21 turnovers. And in two games last season, Concord and Bluefield State combined for 282 shots, more than 140 shots per game. In two games in 2025-26, Bluefield State and its opponents are only averaging 107 field goal attempts per game.

FIND THE STROKE
The Mountain Lions enter Wednesday night shooting 35.1 percent from three-point range through two games. Concord came out firing and shot 42.1 percent (8-for-19) from three-point distance in the opener at IUP. But, CU cooled off to shoot just 27.8 percent (5-for-18) from beyond the arc against Pitt-Johnstown. Gilbert accounted for five of Concord's 13 three-pointers over the weekend as he leads the MEC in three-point percentage (62.5 percent). Without Gilbert, the Mountain Lions are only shooting 27.6 percent from three-point distance as a team this year. Concord gets a Bluefield State team that is allowing teams to shoot 41.2 percent from three-point distance in the early going of the season. The Mountain Lions have made 10 or more triples in three of the last five games against Bluefield State.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
27- Career-high minutes played by sophomore guard Cole Lambert in his first career start at IUP.

52.1- Percent shot by Concord in last year's home win over Bluefield State.

76- CU's win percentage inside the Carter Center (19-6) over the last two years.

SCOUTING THE BIG BLUES
In coming from Fayetteville State, Coach D'Alessio brought three players from FSU with him, including Myles Pierre who is tied for the team lead in scoring (15.5 points per game). Virginia Union transfer Anthony Davenport is also netting 15.5 points per game. A total of seven CIAA schools are represented in the transfer class for the Big Blues. The leading rebounder for BSU is another former Fayetteville State Bronco, Jayden Beloti, who is grabbing 7.5 rebounds per game. Bluefield State opened the season with losses to Seton Hill and Shippensburg in a conference challenge played at Frostburg State.
