BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Junior defensive back Nehemiah Scott of the Concord University football team has been selected as the Mountain East Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league office released Monday afternoon.

The MEC Players of the Week are presented by The Health Plan.

Scott, a native of Richmond, Virginia, picks up his first career weekly conference award after finishing second on the team with eight tackles in addition to 4.5 tackles for loss and two sacks against West Virginia Wesleyan Saturday in Concord's 31-21 win over the Bobcats. He added one pass break-up in the contest as well.

The 4.5 TFLs for Scott are the most for any Mountain Lion in a single game this fall as well as a career high for Concord's nickelback.

Scott was part of a CU defense that rolled up 14 TFLs, which netted 82 negative yards for the West Virginia Wesleyan offense, and seven sacks—the most for the Mountain Lions since September 2017.

After Saturday, Scott ranks fifth in the MEC with 71 tackles and is tied for the MEC lead in TFLs (10) with West Liberty's Grant Thompson.

The MEC Offensive Player of the Week was split between Glenville State running back Jeremiah King and Charleston quarterback Matt Frye. UC's Caleb Barringer was named the MEC Special Teams Player of the Week.

CU plays its final conference road game of the season when the Maroon and Gray faces Wheeling 12:00 p.m. Saturday.
