Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Concord Slips Past Davis & Elkins, 1-0

ELKINS, W.Va. -  The Concord University men's soccer team used a second-half set piece for the game's only goal in a win at Davis & Elkins Sunday afternoon in a Mountain East Conference game at Nuttall Field.

Despite being outshot 10-3 for the game with all three attempts coming in the second half, the Mountain Lions (11-3-1, 9-3 MEC) broke through with a goal in the 58th minute. On a free kick from just outside 20 yards, senior defender Ted Roberts found fellow senior defender Erik Lotysz who tapped in his third goal of the season inside the right post.

Roberts, Lotysz and the rest of the Concord backline had to fend off Davis & Elkins (7-5-3, 6-4-2 MEC) for the entirety of the match as the Senators took 10 shots. However, only two of those shots made their way to senior goalkeeper Nathan Scargill who tallied his third solo shutout (five overall) of the season.

Lotysz's shot was the first of the contest for CU. Junior forward Dominique Malhomme recorded a shot on goal in the 76th minute, and senior defender Zakari Messam wound out up a free kick in the final 30 seconds of the game that end up going on goal.

With Sunday's result, the Mountain Lions are now five points clear of Point Park for second (27-22) in the MEC standings, and remain in contention for the conference regular-season title with West Liberty (November 1) and Charleston (November 5) left to play.

CU's next game is a non-conference tilt with Emory & Henry at home 4:00 p.m. Wednesday.
