Concord Plays to Scoreless Draw Against Emory & Henry

ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University men's soccer team's match against Emory & Henry ended in a 0-0 draw Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action at Callaghan Stadium.

Emory & Henry (6-3-4) started the match with the momentum. The Wasps mustered a pair of shots and really controlled the pace of play with their speedy forwards.

After 20 minutes, Concord (11-3-2) took the reins and dominated the rest of the half. Junior forward Reese Joshua-McCarthy fired the first shot on goal of the game but it was cleared off the line in the 28th minute.

Senior midfielder Malher Santi Possu found some space and ripped a shot that rattled the crossbar, narrowly missing a wonderful goal in the 31st minute.

After the break, both teams started slowly until the 56th minute when the Wasps headed a ball off the crossbar themselves.

Still scoreless, senior goalkeeper Nathan Scargill made his first and only save of the game in the 61st minute.

In the remaining 29 minutes, Concord had all the momentum, but still was unable to cash in on a goal.

Despite their chances, neither team broke through and the match ended in a hard-fought draw.

The Mountain Lions led 12 shots to E&H's six, and five shots on goal to just one for E&H. Possu had the most shots in the game with five, and Joshua-McCarthy led the game with three shots on goal.

Concord stays at home for their last home match of the regular season as the program celebrates senior day against West Liberty Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
