CENTURY MARK PASS CATCHERS
In Concord's 44-21 win over West Liberty Saturday, the Mountain Lions had two wide receivers, redshirt freshmen
Dom Collins and
Keyon Concepcion, surpass 100 receiving yards in the victory. Collins hauled in five receptions, all in the first half, for 117 yards and two scores. It was Collins' fourth-straight 100-yard game to begin the season. Meanwhile, Concepcion set career highs in both receptions (eight) and yards (112). Saturday's performance marks the second straight season that CU had two or more 100-yard receivers in the same game after the Maroon and Gray accomplished the feat at Fairmont State in 2024. Collins is third in Division II in receiving yards (554) and his seven touchdowns are tied for second in the nation. Meanwhile, Concepcion is fifth in the MEC in receiving yards (293).
THREE'S COMPANY
CU scored three touchdowns on the ground Saturday with redshirt freshman quarterback
Robert Shockey finding the end zone in the first half before graduate running back
Rashad Luckey-Dowdy and junior running back
Israel Rhodes had short touchdown runs in the second half. The touchdowns by Luckey-Dowdy and Rhodes were the first two rushing scores by Concord running backs this season. Additionally, the last time the Mountain Lions had three rushing touchdowns in the same game by three different players was in October 2018 versus Glenville State. Entering Saturday, Concord had just one rushing touchdown on the year, a score by sophomore quarterback
Tyler Mizzell at UVa.-Wise in the opener. Rhodes had his most productive day in the Maroon and Gray with eight carries for 32 yards and a score.
TAKE THE BALL
Concord recorded its second game of the year with three takeaways—two interceptions and the first fumble recovery of the 2025 campaign for the Mountain Lions. Senior defensive back
Corey Radcliff had the third of the three West Liberty turnovers with his MEC-leading third interception of the year. Radcliff is also tied for second in Division II in picks. Junior defensive back
Monroe Ingraham had his first career interception with a second-quarter takeaway. And Concord's fumble recovery was on the opening kickoff of the second half as junior defensive back
Nehemiah Scott jumped on the bounding ball at the West Liberty 35-yard line. CU's +2 turnover margin Saturday gets the Mountain Lions back to even on the season. Frostburg State has one of the best turnover margins in Division II at +6.
MONEY MIZZELL
Mizzell continued his torrid start to the season as he threw for a career-best 391 yards on 23 completions and three touchdowns. Mizzell completed 76 percent of his passes, 30 attempts. It marked the first time a CU quarterback completed 75 percent (minimum 20 attempts) or higher of passes since the 2019 season. Mizzell is fifth in Division II in passing yards (1,444) and tied for fifth in passing touchdowns (13). The only other MEC quarterback with double-digit passing touchdowns is Charleston's Ean Hamric. When it comes to longer completions, Mizzell has already completed 28 passes of 20 yards or more—a season after the Mountain Lions had just 31 completions of 20 yards or more. And Mizzell has back-to-back games with a 70-yard completion, both touchdowns to Collins.
GOOD MEETS GOOD
The top two defenses in the MEC meet Saturday afternoon at Bobcat Stadium. Frostburg State is the only defense in the conference, and just one of 22 in Division II allowing less than 300 yards of offense per game (291.2). Meanwhile, Concord is surrendering 309.3 yards per game which ranks 32
nd in Division II. The Mountain Lions had their best defensive outing of the season this past week as they allowed just 193 yards of offense, the first game since the end of the 2022 season allowing under 200 yards of offense. Both Concord and FSU have been particularly tough to pass on this fall. CU is allowing 152 yards per game through the air which is top 10 in Division II. Frostburg State's 168 yards allowed through the air is 25
th. And the Mountain Lions' seven interceptions are tied for 11
th in Division II.
PASS PROTECTION
Even though Concord has used seven different starting offensive linemen in four games, the unit up front has only surrendered two sacks. CU's offensive line had just one returner entering the year, junior
Aidan Parsons, but the starter of 19 career games has not played since UVa.-Wise. The right side of the line, freshman guard
Johnathan Johnson and junior tackle
Jacob Jeudy, has remained intact, but the left side and center has seen shuffling. The offensive line will be put to the test this week as it faces a Frostburg State team that has seven sacks this year, including at least one in all four games Traditionally strong up front, FSU has 57 sacks since the start of the 2023 season, an average of 2.2 per game.
FIND A WAY
The Mountain Lions have defeated Frostburg State just once in five tries, a 23-22 win on the road in 2022. It's the only 23-22 score line in program history for Concord. CU will be seeking to reverse a trend against the Bobcats in which it has allowed 40 or more points in three of the previous five meetings. In last year's 54-21 loss at FSU, the Maroon and Gray led 14-13 halfway through the second quarter, and was only down 20-14 at halftime. However, Frostburg State outscored Concord 17-0 in the third quarter. Graduate defensive lineman
Jaylen Dollar notched five tackles a season ago versus the Bobcats while Scott registered four stops.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
6- CU is seeking to break a six-game losing streak against nationally-ranked teams that dates back to 2014.
8- Years since Concord has had a player with three interceptions in a season before Radcliff.
31- Consecutive pass attempts without a sack allowed by the CU offensive line.
SCOUTING THE BOBCATS
In starting 4-0 and earning a national ranking, the Bobcats have yet to defeat a team with a win. Shepherd, Millersville, West Virginia Wesleyan and West Liberty are a combined 0-18 this season. Christian Taylor and Carter Mazalewski have combined for five of the seven sacks for the Bobcats. Owen Doyle leads the conference in rushing touchdowns (six) while ranking third in yards (350). Jordan Brooks has seen action in three games under center, throwing six touchdowns in just 42 attempts.
