BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The Concord University football program and head coach
Cody Edwards in collaboration with the Mountain East Conference has announced the 2026 football schedule.
The entire MEC schedule can be found at the link above as it was released Tuesday afternoon.
Concord is slated for 11 games this fall—eight against MEC foes and three more versus non-conference competition.
The season opener for the Mountain Lions will be August 27 against Division I Davidson in suburban Charlotte.
Mercer County rival Bluefield State will serve as the first home game, September 5, as Concord and BSU renew their rivalry for the third straight season. A second straight home game awaits Thursday, September 17 when Charleston visits Callaghan Stadium for the first MEC game. It will also be CU's first weeknight home game since the 2017 season.
The rest of the schedule alternates between home and away games. The Mountain Lions ahead to West Liberty September 26 before welcoming defending conference champion Frostburg State October 3. The Bobcats were also a NCAA Division II Playoff Quarterfinalist in 2025.
After a trip to West Virginia State October 10, Homecoming will be celebrated on the Athens campus with Glenville State in town October 17. Concord faces West Virginia Wesleyan on the road October 24. And on Halloween, Wheeling will be the home opponent for the Mountain Lions.
The final road game sees CU face Fairmont State November 7. The regular season wraps up with a non-conference tilt versus Ferrum November 14.
Game times for the entire 2026 season will be announced later in the spring or early summer.
SCHEDULE NOTES
-Concord's last Thursday night home game was a 7-0 victory over UVa.-Wise September 14, 2017.
-The Mountain Lions have an eight-game winning streak against West Virginia Wesleyan that dates back to the 2018 season.
-CU will be playing its first Division I opponent since a trip to Liberty in the middle of the 2012 season. Davidson plays in the Pioneer Football League and went 2-10 in 2025.
-Concord scored a season-high 56 points to close out the regular season at Ferrum last year. It was the first all-time meeting between the two schools.
