BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Junior outside hitter
Meg Williams of the Concord University volleyball team has been named the Mountain East Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
The MEC Players of the Week are presented by The Health Plan.
Williams, a native of Shady Spring, West Virginia, is the MEC Defensive Player of the Week after collecting a pair of double-doubles in a 2-0 week for the Mountain Lions, running CU's record to 14-2 for the season.
Williams tallied 18 kills and a season-best 19 digs as she just missed her first career 20-20 game in a five-set win over West Virginia Wesleyan, who was previously unbeaten in MEC play, Tuesday. Williams also threw in four blocks. She returned to the court Friday at Davis & Elkins to supply 12 kills and 13 digs.
For the week, Williams hit .281 while running her streak of consecutive matches with a double-double to five.
The Mountain Lions return to the Carter Center 7:00 p.m. Tuesday to play Glenville State before embarking on a three-match road trip.
