SALEM, Va. – The Concord University women's track & field team competed at the Finn Pincus Invite inside Roanoke College's Cregger Center Friday and Saturday.
Junior
Katy Walkup tallied an event victory for CU as she crossed the line first in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 19:10.97 as she held off Mars Hill's Sophie Ratcliffe by eight seconds. Senior
Madison Cornett came through in 19:59.84 as she placed fourth. And sophomore
Sara Turner ran 21:17.04, placing seventh.
Freshman
Cierra Parker tied the indoor school record in the high jump as she cleared 1.60 meters, matching the mark set by Ashleigh Taylor in the winter of 2013. It is also the third best performance in the Mountain East Conference thus far this winter.
In other field action, freshman
Cassidy Hammonds had a mark of 5.12 meters in the long jump to place sixth.
In the 3,000-meter run, junior
Emma Jenkins stopped the timer at 11:55.37 as she finished 17
th. Freshman
Kate Kelly was one spot behind with a time of 11:56.53.
Sophomore
Izzy Williams sprinted 8.17 seconds in the 60-meter dash as she placed seventh. And rounding out the top finishers for Concord was senior
Baylee Bentley in the 800-meter run, finishing 19
th in a time of 3:17.05.
The Mountain Lions return to the oval and their respective field events Saturday, January 25 when they compete at Muskingham's Muskie Invite.
