Concord Announces September 28 Football Game as Special Olympics Signing Day

ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University Athletic Department has announced a continuing partnership with Mercer County Special Olympics that will coincide with the Concord University football team's home game on September 28 versus Charleston.

Over the last two spring semesters, various athletic programs have worked with the Special Olympics of Mercer County providing an environment and volunteering time for the program's basketball training during the winter months.

On September 28, Concord will host the Special Olympics program with an event that features Olympic-style field games, an autograph and meet-and-greet session with the Concord team of their choice and a tailgate for participants and their families prior to and during the Concord football game. Mercer County Special Olympics will also be recognized on the turf of Callaghan Stadium during halftime.

Below is a rundown of the events for September 28 with all events taking place at Callaghan Stadium.

9:30-10:30 a.m. – Game stations set up by Concord athletes on football field turf

10:30-11:15 a.m. – Special Olympic signing day, each athlete can sign with the CU team of their choice. Free t-shirt will be given away as well as photo opportunities and autographs with Concord athletes.

11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. – Tailgate in parking lot

1:00 p.m. – Kickoff of football game

Approximately 2:15 p.m. - Halftime recognition

After Special Olympic participants sign with the program of their choice on September 28, they will be invited to walk in the Concord Homecoming parade October 17 with the team of their choice.
