Concord Places Tenth at MEC Spring Invite

WHEELING, W.Va. – The Concord University men's golf team finished tenth at the Mountain East Conference Spring Invite that concluded Tuesday afternoon at Oglebay Resort.

Concord shot scores of 307 and 327 as it finished with a two-day total of 634. Charleston won the team event as it went from fourth to first on day two to win by five strokes over Glenville State (565-570).

Sophomore Zan Hill was Concord's top finisher as he shot 155 (76, 79) to tie for 38th. The first-round 76 by Hill was the best score of the spring season for the Daniels, West Virginia native. Junior Indiana Eades tied for 40th as he was one stroke back of Hill with a two-round score of 156 (75, 81).

Junior Peyton Watts carded a first-round 76 and followed it up with an 81 as he tied for 44th at 157.

Fellow junior Jacob Chittaphong finished at 166 after rounds of 80 and 86. And senior Hunter Willis rounded out the CU golfers after shooting 89 on Monday and coming back with a 96 Tuesday afternoon.

At the conclusion of the MEC Spring Invite, the conference office named its yearly award winners based on scoring from the five rounds of MEC competition (three rounds at the MEC Championship in October and two rounds this week).

West Virginia Wesleyan's Francisco Taboada was the MEC Golfer of the Year while Glenville State's Benjamin Fernandez, who won the spring tournament with a two-day total of 132, was the MEC Freshman of the Year.

GSU's John Lilly was the MEC Coach of the Year.

Concord competes at the Mercyhurst Spring Invite Friday and Saturday in Erie, Pennsylvania.
